Journeyscape, the UK specialist in immersive North American tailor-made travel, has launched a brand new 10-day holiday exploring the soulful sounds, scenic backroads and mountain landscapes of Eastern Tennessee, timed to coincide with the year in which the region celebrates one of its most iconic cultural figures, Dolly Parton, turning 80.
Eastern Tennessee: Music to the Mountains is a carefully curated self-drive journey that traces the region's rich musical heritage while travelling through rolling foothills and into the dramatic peaks of the southern Appalachians, with four days dedicated to the Great Smoky Mountains region.
The itinerary begins with three nights in Nashville, where travellers can immerse themselves in the city's legendary music scene, including attending a live performance at the iconic Grand Ole Opry. Guests then collect their hire car and drive to historic Franklin before continuing to Sevierville in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains via Knoxville, with opportunities along the way to discover the landscape by boat and on foot.
The Smoky Mountains: Heart and Soul of the Journey
Set in the foothills of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Sevierville is a welcoming gateway surrounded by mist‑covered peaks and rolling forested hills. The town is steeped in cultural heritage and musical history, famously as the hometown of Dolly Parton, and launching in her milestone 80th birthday year adds a timely cultural dimension to the journey, celebrating one of Tennessee's most influential artists. Stunning landscapes define the Smokies, with sweeping views across the foothills into one of America's most breathtaking national parks. The park is an International Biosphere Reserve, home to remarkable biodiversity, historic Appalachian structures and more than 150 hiking trails, including sections of the Appalachian Trail.
From the Smokies, the journey continues south towards Chattanooga, set along the Tennessee River, where travellers can enjoy its picturesque setting alongside more active adventures, including cycling and walking trails. The holiday concludes in Atlanta, where the car is returned before flying back to the UK.
A standout feature of the journey is the stay in a treehouse in the Smoky Mountains, offering a unique and atmospheric base surrounded by forested scenery.
“Eastern Tennessee is a destination that really resonates with the Journeyscape style of travel,” says Dominique Kotsias, Product Manager at Journeyscape. “It's a region shaped by music, landscape and storytelling, and this journey allows travellers to experience all three in a meaningful way — from culturally rich towns to immersive stays in nature, including time spent high among the trees in the Smoky Mountains.”
Eastern Tennessee: Music to the Mountains costs £2,255 per person and includes good‑quality accommodation, car hire, a Nashville sightseeing pass and tickets to attend the Grand Ole Opry. International flights are extra.
