Hong Kong recorded a strong year for Australian and New Zealand visitors in 2025 with the latest Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) visitor statistics showing a 27% year-on-year increase when comparing January to December 2024 with the same period in 2025.

In 2025, 469,000 Australian and 84,000 New Zealand arrivals enjoyed a taste of Hong Kong's year-round excitement, closing out the year strongly with December being the most popular month of 2025 with 67,789 Australian and 11,000 New Zealand arrivals. With December 2025 marking the second highest number of monthly Australian visitors to Hong Kong in 12 years.

HKTB Director for Australia, New Zealand & South Pacific, Karen Macmillan, attributed increased air capacity and a strong events calendar as some of the factors driving visitor numbers.

“In 2025 we saw Hong Kong Airlines launch direct flights from Melbourne and Sydney to Hong Kong, and Cathay Pacific resumed direct flights from Adelaide,” Ms Macmillan said.

“Hong Kong started off the event season in spectacular fashion with Chinese New Year in late January 2025. On the sporting side, we saw a phenomenal Hong Kong Sevens event in Super March with the opening of the Kai Tak Stadium precinct, and the annual Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival continued to attract strong numbers in October. As a family-friendly destination, school holiday periods also performed strongly in the Australian market.

“With a dedicated local tourism office based in Sydney, our ANZ team managed strategic initiatives throughout 2025 across trade, consumer and cruise sectors to communicate Hong Kong's appeal in terms of travel time, its breadth of attractions, and a relatively high proportion of English speakers. Another key marketing and sales focus was Hong Kong as a stopover city of choice.”

Globally, HKTB reported provisional full-year visitor arrivals for 2025 reached 49.9 million, representing a 12% year-on-year increase.
