BALI, INDONESIA - Karma Kandara, Bali's acclaimed clifftop resort, announces its exclusive Nyepi programme for 2026, inviting guests to witness one of the world's most extraordinary spiritual traditions during the Balinese Day of Silence on 19 March.
Nyepi marks the Balinese New Year, a sacred day of fasting, meditation, and complete stillness observed across the entire island. For 24 hours, Bali enters absolute silence: no lights, no travel, no activity. It is a spiritual phenomenon found nowhere else on Earth.
A Sanctuary for Silence
Karma Kandara's two-night Nyepi package offers guests a thoughtfully curated experience honouring this profound tradition. The stay includes daily breakfast, a specially prepared all-day Nyepi lunch, a survival basket for in-villa comfort, and participation in the resort's Ocean Blessing Ceremony.
"Nyepi represents a rare opportunity for genuine disconnection and inner reflection," says Karma Kandara General Manager - Rai Artawan. "At Karma Kandara, we've designed our programme to allow guests to fully embrace this sacred pause whilst enjoying the comfort and serenity of our clifftop sanctuary."
Eve of Nyepi: Traditional Celebration
On 18 March, the resort welcomes Nyepi with an on-property Ogoh-Ogoh parade, a vibrant Balinese tradition featuring elaborate demon effigies paraded to cleanse negative energies. The evening continues with a beach party and a traditional Babi Guling Feast (Balinese roasted pig) at Karma Beach Bali, starting at 6:00pm.
The feast features a live carving station alongside classic Balinese dishes including:
- Juket Ares (banana stem soup with galangal)
- Ayam Taliwang (grilled chicken with bumbu merah)
- Bebek Goreng (crispy fried duck with sambal hijau)
- Rendang Sapi (slow-cooked beef with coconut milk and lemongrass)
- Udang Bumbu Merah (grilled tiger prawns)
- Sate Ikan Lilit (mixed seafood with Balinese bumbu kuning)
- Traditional accompaniments and desserts

Day of Silence: Mindful Dining
On 19 March, as Bali observes complete stillness, Karma Kandara presents an all-day BBQ buffet at di Mare Restaurant (1:00 - 6:00pm). The thoughtfully curated menu features fresh salads, poolside BBQ favourites, a live pasta station, and desserts, allowing guests to nourish themselves whilst honouring the day's contemplative spirit.
The buffet includes Mediterranean and international options such as Caprese salad, grilled vegetables, quinoa salad, satay selections, barramundi, BBQ chicken, roast pork belly, pasta with various sauces, and desserts including tiramisu and tropical fruits.
Nyepi All-Day Lunch: IDR 750,000++ per person
Family-Friendly Observance
Recognising that stillness can be challenging for younger guests, Karma Kandara's Three Monkey Kids Club offers a full day of supervised activities on 19 March, including Ogoh-Ogoh colouring, crafts, lunch with a film screening, shell photo frame creation, painting, and face painting.
Kids Club programme: 10:00am–5:00pm pickup

The resort's Nyepi Serenity Escape spa programme complements the day's spiritual significance with treatments designed to calm the nervous system and release tension:

About Nyepi
Nyepi, derived from the word "sepi" (quiet or silent), is observed according to the Balinese Saka calendar. The day begins at 6:00am and continues for 24 hours, during which the entire island adheres to four principal prohibitions: no fire or light (amati geni), no travel (amati lelungan), no activity (amati karya), and no entertainment (amati lelanguan). Even Bali's international airport closes for the day.
The practice allows for collective meditation and self-reflection whilst symbolically confusing evil spirits into believing Bali is uninhabited, encouraging them to leave the island.
