Catalan Tourist Board

Catalonia has officially presented the 60 municipalities that will take part in the Grand Départ Barcelona of the Tour de France 2026, placing the region at the centre of the global cycling spotlight from 4 to 6 July 2026. The first three stages of the race will be held entirely in Catalonia, involving towns and cities across 12 counties and three provinces, highlighting the region's strong territorial cohesion and organisational capacity.

The Grand Départ Barcelona 2026 will cover a total of 397.4 kilometres, including 15 climbs and an accumulated ascent of 6,650 metres, offering a route that combines urban landmarks, coastal scenery and inland landscapes. The event underlines Catalonia's long-standing commitment to cycling and its ability to host large-scale international sporting events.

Stage One: Barcelona – 4 July 2026

The race will begin on 4 July with a 19 km team time trial in Barcelona, a format not used in the Tour de France for 55 years. The route will pass through some of the city's most iconic locations before finishing at the Estadi Olímpic de Montjuïc, marking a historic opening to the 2026 edition.

Stage Two: Tarragona to Barcelona – 5 July 2026

On 5 July, the peloton will tackle a 182.4 km stage from Tarragona to Barcelona, passing through 28 municipalities. The route will showcase the Costa Daurada and Barcelona's coastal areas before a demanding finale with climbs to Montjuïc Castle, adding both sporting and visual appeal.

Stage Three: Granollers onwards – 6 July 2026

The third stage, departing from Granollers on 6 July, within the Barcelona Landscapes area, will pass through 34 municipalities, further reinforcing the decentralised and inclusive nature of the Grand Départ. Ahead of the race, Barcelona will host the official team presentation on 2 July, bringing the international cycling spotlight to the city even before the competition begins.

A Global Showcase for Catalonia

The Grand Départ Barcelona of the Tour de France 2026 represents a major opportunity for Catalonia in terms of sport, tourism and international visibility. Broadcast in more than 190 countries, the event is expected to reach a global audience of between 3 and 3.5 billion viewers, consolidating Catalonia's status as a leading destination for elite cycling and major international sporting events.
