Sofitel Brisbane Launches 7 Paintings - The Gastronomy of Modern Art

Sofitel Hotels & Resorts

Art and culture are on the menu at Sofitel Brisbane Central, with the launch of 7 Paintings, an immersive culinary journey through the world's most iconic masterpieces. This multi-sensory dining experience blends gastronomy, visual art, music and storytelling in Bistro Suzette's private dining room Privé, positioning Sofitel at the forefront of experiential hospitality.

Through state-of-the-art projection mapping, each table becomes a living canvas. As guests move through the courses, they are transported across centuries of creative genius, from the soaring vaults of the Sistine Chapel to the street art of Banksy, and from the explosive energy of Jackson Pollock to the dreamlike surrealism of Salvador Dalí. Every dish has been meticulously crafted by Executive Chef Alex Goyard to reflect not just the visual language of each artwork, but its emotional core.

7 Paintings is a celebration of creativity, where art and gastronomy come together in a way that engages all the senses. Each course has been thoughtfully crafted to reflect the story and emotion of the artwork it accompanies. It is dining as theatre and cuisine as culture. We invite guests to not just taste, but to experience the art.

— Alex Goyard, Executive Chef, Sofitel Brisbane Central

Michelangelo

The evening opens in reverence to Michelangelo, the undisputed master of the Renaissance. This first course pays tribute to his refined elegance and extraordinary detail, with a delicate composition of Taggiasca olives, Mount Tamborine stracciatella and a charcoal tartlet that mirrors the drama and refinement of his masterworks.

Banksy

Enigmatic street artist Banksy has spent decades challenging authority and holding a mirror up to society, through art that is subversive, witty and compelling. The Banksy course channels that same bold irreverence with a hand-cut pure Angus eye fillet paired with parsnip, yuzu pickles and watercress in a dish that is refined yet daring, much like the artist himself.

Pablo Picasso

Few artists have shattered the boundaries of art quite like Pablo Picasso, the co-inventor of Cubism. A beautifully prepared fish of the day with confit fennel, almond crumble and black garlic beurre blanc reflects his fluidity and boldness.

Jackson Pollock

Jackson Pollock revolutionised modern art by pouring and splattering paint to create dense, layered compositions that pulse with raw energy and movement. The Pollock course reflects this sense of beautiful chaos and is the centrepiece of the evening. An edible painting featuring sauces in red, yellow, blue and black, guests will literally eat the painting, recreating Pollock's iconic drip technique on the plate.

Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol turned the mundane into the iconic. He blurred the line between fine art and popular culture, between handmade and mass-produced. The Warhol course honours his legacy of bold simplicity in an MB4+ grass-fed Angus eye fillet with butter mash, green beans and green peppercorn jus, which is classic, confident and unmistakably refined.

Salvador Dalí

Salvador Dalí's melting clocks, dreamscapes and fantastical visions permanently expanded the imagination. The Dalí dessert course captures his playful extravagance through a passionfruit crème brûlée adorned with orange confit, meringue and passion coulis, which is whimsical, indulgent and as unforgettable as the artist himself.

Vincent van Gogh

The evening closes with one of art history's most deeply human stories. Vincent van Gogh was tortured, passionate and profoundly misunderstood in his lifetime. The Starry Night, Sunflowers and his self-portraits remain among the most beloved works in the world. The Van Gogh finale, a blueberry cheesecake with speculoos sable biscuit and a trio of white, dark and ruby chocolate sauces, is a fitting crescendo that represents his layered, luminous and deeply satisfying artworks.

Sofitel: Where Art and Culture Are Built Into the DNA

Rooted in a tradition of French zest and acting as a cultural link, Sofitel hotels have long positioned creative expression as a foundational pillar of the guest experience. Across the world, Sofitel hotels are celebrated not just for their architectural grandeur and impeccable service, but for the cultural programming, artistic installations and experiential moments that elevate every stay beyond the ordinary.

Sofitel Brisbane Central exemplifies this commitment. Located in the heart of Brisbane's cultural precinct, the hotel has consistently championed local and international art, curating experiences that blur the boundary between hospitality and cultural immersion, and 7 Paintings is the natural evolution of that ethos.

"Today's travellers and diners are seeking experiences that spark emotion and create shared memories long after the moment has passed. 7 Paintings was conceived precisely to meet this demand. It is a feast for all the senses, where the visual spectacle of projection-mapped art wraps around the table and where every ingredient has been chosen not only for its culinary merit, but to evoke the emotion of the artwork it represents,” said Chef Goyard.

7 Paintings is available as the classic menu, a fully plant-based Vegan menu and even as a children's menu, so that every guest can enjoy it. The 7 Paintings experience runs from 20 February until June 2026 and is priced from $175 per person.
