A Month of Culture Across Halton
Culture 26 brings an eclectic programme throughout February, blending historic settings with contemporary performance and participatory experiences.
At Norton Priory, the evocative Phantoms of the Priory runs throughout the month, inviting visitors to explore one of Europe's most excavated monastic sites in a whole new light. Elsewhere, audiences can enjoy comic musical history with Witty Ditties, the warmth of a candlelit concert inspired by Les Misérables, and a thrilling Evening with the Cheshire Chord in the Priory's striking atrium.
Meanwhile, The Brindley Theatre sets the stage for a vibrant mix of comedy, drama and musical theatre. Highlights include Janet Street-Porter's unapologetic Off the Leash, classic tribute performances celebrating Kate Bush and Queen, and a high-energy, Made in Halton production of Grease that promises to have audiences singing along.
Half-Term Fun for Curious Minds
Families visiting Halton during February half-term will find no shortage of activities designed to inspire, entertain and get hands-on.
At The Catalyst Science Discovery Centre, the UK's only chemical industry museum, half-term is packed with interactive experiences. From Destination Space: Mission to the Moon, exploring the future of space travel, to erupting volcanoes, rocket launches and hydrogen-powered car workshops, young explorers can learn through play, in a warm, welcoming setting.
Back at Norton Priory, free arts and crafts drop-in sessions invite families to create shadow puppets and photographic artworks inspired by the Priory's mysterious past, while tabletop gaming events add a touch of fantasy to the school holiday break.
Creative families can also head to Hazlehurst Studios in Runcorn, where half-term workshops range from photography and jewellery-making to animal education sessions, offering the chance to learn something new and take home a handmade memory.
Music on the Move and a New Trail to Explore
Over half-term, Culture 26 partners with North Cheshire Community Rail to transform everyday journeys into cultural experiences. Live performances onboard Northern Rail services between Widnes and Liverpool bring music directly to passengers, turning travel time into part of the adventure.
Launching this February, the Widnes Music Trail: Beyond the Tracks offers a self-guided way to explore the town's rich musical heritage, this walking trail goes from Widnes to Runcorn train station. Narrated by Melanie C and local musician Lee Wylding from The Far North. The trail uncovers surprising stories connecting Widnes to global music icons, Widnes' surprising influence on global music culture, from The Beatles and Freddie Mercury to The Stone Roses and Girls Aloud. Where QR codes unlock audio stories along the way as visitors explore some of the locations that shaped Halton's musical identity at their own pace.
Evenings Out, Valentine's Treats and Local Life
February in Halton isn't just about daytime discovery. Visitors can enjoy Valentine's dining at Field 28 in Daresbury, live cinema and theatre screenings at Reel Cinema Widnes, and a packed sporting calendar featuring Widnes Vikings, Widnes Wild ice hockey and Runcorn Linnets FC.
Markets, exhibitions and community events add to the sense of place, from Widnes Market's indoor and outdoor stalls to the Know Your Neighbourhood photography exhibition at Widnes Library.
