Pittsburgh welcomes new Aer Lingus nonstop making access to the city even easier for UK & Irish travellers in 2026.

Following the recent Aer Lingus announcement detailing a new nonstop flight to Pittsburgh International (PIT) from Dublin Airport (DUB), travellers from the UK and Ireland now have even easier access to the vibrant US city of Pittsburgh.

Aer Lingus' UK hub is located at London Gatwick (LGW), but you can also fly from 15 other UK airports to both Ireland and Northern Ireland destinations. This offers additional options for travellers in the north of England and Scotland to travel internationally without having to connect through London Heathrow (LHR) benefiting from access to Dublin Airport's US Preclearance where passengers can complete all immigration checks before departure. This allows for a smoother and quicker transition state-side.

Launching 25 May 2026, the new Aer Lingus service will operate four times weekly departing DUB on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays - with a short pause in January and February. Fares start from €512/£450 and are available to book now with Aer Lingus.

The new service will strengthen air links to Pittsburgh, joining British Airways' year round, daily non-stop service from LHR which launched in 2019. Icelandair also offers convenient one-stop connections from LHR, LGW, Manchester (MAN) and Glasgow (GLA) via Reykjavík, before continuing on to Pittsburgh - an appealing option for travellers looking to combine a city break with a taste of Iceland's volcanic adventure.

Seamlessly blending industrial heritage with innovation and creating a unique "small town feel in a big city" vibe, Pittsburgh is best described as a city of reinvention: a gritty, historic "Steel City" transformed into a modern hub for tech, medicine, and education. Today it's known for its stunning riverfronts, unique hilly geography with 446 bridges, vibrant diverse neighbourhoods, and a surprisingly green, livable atmosphere with a proud, blue-collar heart and hearty comfort food.

What's New in Pittsburgh for 2026?

Visitors planning a trip next year will be delighted with the rich array of exciting sporting events, art exhibitions and delicious culinary additions on offer, making for the perfect city break option. In May, the 59th Carnegie International, (North America's longest-running global contemporary art exhibition), will kick off some of the excitement and transform the Carnegie Museum of Art and the city into an artists hub with major commissions, installations and international works on display.

The cultural energy continues with new openings such as Arts Landing, a four-acre waterfront hub for performances, public art and recreation, alongside standout exhibitions ranging from groundbreaking digital art at Wood Street Galleries to French modernist masterpieces and powerful historic photography at The Frick. Meanwhile, the city's sporting scene remains as vibrant as ever, with year-round action from the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates in some of the country's most atmospheric stadiums. 2026 will also see the NFL Draft and 500,000 visitiors decend on the city for the annual event.

The news comes hot on the heels of Pittsburgh International Airport unveiling of its new state-of-the-art terminal. Arriving into Pittsburgh, visitors will be welcomed by this $1.7 billion update which incorporates the city's creative spirit with more than 80% of the arts and cultural installations throughout the facility coming from local artists.
