Music and culture to warm the winter nights
Winter in Glasgow wouldn't be complete without the city's signature festival magic. Coming up from 15 January to 1 February 2026, Celtic Connections, Europe's biggest winter music festival, returns to bring the world's folk, roots, and global music to venues across the city. With hundreds of events, hundreds of artists and dozens of venues, from intimate bars to grand concert halls, there's a show to suit every taste. You can discover what's on here.
Film fans can meanwhile look ahead to Glasgow Film Festival (25 February – 8 March 2026), where a rich programme of international premieres, Scottish cinema showcases, special events and industry Q&As offer a cinematic treat to round out the season.
And if you're yearning for fresh air between all of this, Glasgow's many parks and green spaces offer beautiful winter walks, perfect for a crisp, reflective stroll. Whether you're spending time in the east end, west end or south side, there are beautiful green spaces just waiting to be explored. Plan your walk here.
Celebrate Scottish tradition
Winter in Glasgow wouldn't be complete without a nod to Scotland's heritage. On 25 January 2026, join a thoughtful tribute to Scotland's national poet at the Kelvingrove Burns Night Concert. Held in the iconic Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum, the evening features music, spoken-word and song in honour of the birth of the beloved bard - a memorable alternative to a traditional Burns Supper. Tickets are £26.88 and can be booked online here.
For those who prefer the full supper and ceilidh experience, restaurants like Mharsanta, Gael & Grain and The Bothy are offering special Burns Night dinners complete with whisky, piping, Scottish dishes, and live traditional music.
Relax, shop and eat
Winter is also a perfect time to slow down. Glasgow's independent shops offer a treasure trove of handmade goods, unique gifts and creative finds, ideal for supporting local makers.
After a busy day of lights, markets or theatre, or simply to escape the winter chill, why not settle into one of the city's cosy pubs or cocktail bars for a warming drink and good company? Glasgow's nightlife in winter has never felt more inviting with spots like Òran Mór, The Curler's Rest and The Ben Nevis offering a warm and cosy spot to enjoy a dram.
Whether you're planning a magical family outing, a festive date night, a friends' catch-up or a solo adventure, this winter, Glasgow welcomes you with open arms and plenty of lights, music, warmth and spirit!
