Faro, Portugal 16 December 2025: Turismo de Portugal and Turismo do Algarve welcome today's official announcement from Formula 1®, confirming the return of the Formula 1® Portuguese Grand Prix to the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (AIA) in 2027 and 2028. This highly anticipated decision reflects the joint efforts of a national task force that, over recent months, brought together the Government of Portugal, promoter Parkalgar, Turismo de Portugal and Turismo do Algarve.

Portugal's confirmation on the Formula 1® calendar represents a renewed vote of international confidence in the country's organisational capability and in the technical excellence of the AIA. The circuit is widely recognised by drivers and teams as one of the most challenging and exciting modern tracks for Formula 1®. In 2020 and 2021, during an unprecedented pandemic context, the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve played a decisive role by ensuring-safely, efficiently and with the highest operational standards-the continuation of the championship, becoming a true success story for Portugal. Turismo de Portugal and Turismo do Algarve thank Formula 1® for its renewed confidence in the country.

Several studies conducted after the 2020 and 2021 editions demonstrated the strong economic and promotional return associated with the event, estimating a combined impact of around €100 million per Grand Prix. It also represented an outstanding opportunity for international exposure for Portugal and for the Algarve brand, strengthening the destination's presence on a global stage with enormous visibility, 827m fans worldwide and an average race weekend audience of nearly 70 million.

With the confirmation of the 2027 and 2028 editions, Portugal once again joins the select group of countries that host the world's most prestigious motorsport championship. For these events, Turismo de Portugal and Turismo do Algarve anticipate that economic impact and media value will significantly exceed those recorded in 2020 and 2021, supported by the return to normal of international travel and the exponential growth of global Formula 1® audiences in recent years – further reinforcing the international standing of Portugal and the Algarve region.
