December 2025 - Lisbon has been named as Europe's Best MICE Destination in 2025 at the 6th edition of the World MICE Awards, announced in Sakhir, Bahrain. The city once again stands out among the leading international destinations for congresses, meetings, and corporate events.
This distinction, awarded for the third time, highlights Lisbon's performance in the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) segment, which has gained increasing economic relevance and international visibility. The combination of efficient accessibility, hotel capacity, modern facilities, and a diverse cultural offer has contributed to consolidating Lisbon's appeal.
For Carlos Moedas, Mayor of Lisbon, “This distinction demonstrates Lisbon's capacity to attract events that generate investment and employment. Business tourism is today a central piece in the city's development strategy, and this recognition shows that we are consolidating a leadership position in Europe.”
Paula Oliveira, Executive Director of the Lisbon Tourism Association (ATL), adds that “This recognition reflects a strategy that has been able to evolve with the market. Today, Lisbon presents a competitive proposition for events of all sizes, benefiting from the quality of its infrastructure, the professionalisation of the sector, and an ecosystem capable of responding to the demands of international organisers.”
The most recent data from ICCA – International Congress and Convention Association – confirm this dynamic, with Lisbon ranking second among European cities with the highest number of association events (153 in 2024).
Created to distinguish excellence in business tourism, the World MICE Awards celebrate destinations, operators, venues and services that contribute to raising global industry standards. This year's distinction reinforces Lisbon's international projection and paves the way for a new cycle of opportunities for business tourism.
