Nobu Hotel San Sebastián

Positioned in the heart of San Sebastián overlooking La Concha Bay, Nobu Hotel San Sebastián is a stylish 17-room sanctuary located in a historical 1912 villa which blends the Belle Époque charm of the Basque Country with Japanese minimalism.

For those looking to explore the region beyond the shores of San Sebastián, the hotel has launched a new range of experiences from local tastings to cooking lessons, scenic hikes and active adventures, showcasing the Basque Country outside of the summer months and enabling visitors to immerse themselves in authentic history, culture and tradition.

Jaizkibel, Hondarribia y Gastronomic Society
This journey is a feast for the senses, combining traditional Basque cuisine with the wild beauty of the Jaizkibel mountain range and dramatic views out to the Cantabria Sea.

Guests will traverse lush meadows and towering cliffs before arriving at the medieval jewel of Hondarribia, a town steeped in history and culinary tradition. Here, the doors of a private Basque gastronomic society (txoko) await. Those curious will bear witness to locals gathering in true Basque spirit – cooking, singing, and celebrating together around the table. As the host prepares a seasonal feast of anchovies, tomato salad with tuna, baked monkfish, and pantxineta (a typical puff pastry cake) for dessert, guests will experience not just a meal, but a living tradition at the core of Basque culinary culture.

Hike the Txakoli Vineyards
This adventure awaits beyond the city limits and on the storied northern route of the Camino de Santiago, where a thousand years of history meet the untamed beauty of the Basque coast. Guests will wander past Game of Thrones beaches, sheer cliffs, and verdant hillsides that surround the region’s celebrated Txakoli vineyards.

Starting from Zumaia, the tour features breathtaking landscapes while uncovering the heritage and craftsmanship behind this crisp Basque wine. The excursion continues to the Medieval town of Getaria, the birthplace of Juan Sebastián Elcano and Cristóbal Balenciaga, and culminates with an exquisite zero-kilometre meal of freshly grilled fish and local Txakoli at the water’s edge – a graceful ending that captures the very essence of Basque gastronomy and the area’s seafaring spirit.

Camino de Santiago and Basque Whalers
This fascinating excursion along the Basque coast is rich in maritime history and includes a half-day walk through forests, dramatic coves, and cliffs to the iconic Faro de la Plata (lighthouse), following the northern route of Camino de Santiago with spectacular views across the Cantabrian Sea.

The route ends in Pasajes San Pedro, facing the picturesque Pasajes San Juan, reached by crossing a small fjord by boat to visit the Albaola Museum, where a specialist team of experts are reconstructing a 16th-century whaling ship using traditional techniques. The experience concludes with a pintxo and local cider tasting to toast the day.

Saveurs of the French Basque Country
This gourmet journey along the Basque Coast starts in Saint-Jean-de-Luz with a visit to a local fromagerie to taste cheese selections curated by an affineur, paired with local wine, followed by a stroll through the picturesque village, its church, and the Maison Adam patisserie, birthplace of the famous French macarons.

The tour continues to Biarritz alongside the famous seaside promenade and Grand Plage before exploring Les Halles market, tasting oysters, shrimp, and charcuterie, all paired with regional wines. The day concludes in Hondarribia, wandering between its fishing quarter and Medieval old town, enjoying pintxos and wine en route.
