Tignes is among the first to launch the new ski season on Saturday 22 November and over the following 163 consecutive days skiers can enjoy 300 km of slopes in one of the highest resorts in the French Alps and home to the Grande Motte glacier at 3,656 metres
First Runs of the Season
Snow is expected this coming week promising good conditions for the first turns of the season. The lifts open at 9am at the Perce-Neige funicular in Val Claret, giving skiers and boarders their first chance to carve fresh tracks on the glacier. After the initial warm up and finding the winter ski legs, it's worth being among the first to catch the Aiguille Percée six-seater lift which completes the upgrade of the ski lift network in the Tignes le Lac and Tignes les Brévières sectors.
New – Season's First Torchlit Descent
In a spectacular new addition to the opening festivities, 100 ski instructors and members of the Tignes Sports Club will descend from the Grande Motte glacier at 3,456 metres altitude at 5.30pm on Saturday evening. The procession will light up the slopes down to Val Claret, followed by a festive après-ski celebration and brings the whole community of the resort together to celebrate the start of the new season.
Les Étoiles du Sport 2025
From 23-27 November, Tignes will welcome over 150 elite French athletes, including both Olympic and Paralympic competitors. The event brings together established champions and rising stars, focusing on mentoring the next generation of high-performance athletes. This will carry extra significance this season as we enter an Olympic winter with the games in Milano-Cortina in 2.5 months' time. Tignes has always proven fertile training grounds for Olympic hopefuls and the hopes are of course this will be the case again in February and March.
Tignes-Val d'Isère ski area
A week on from the Tignes opening the full ski area of Tignes-Val d'Isère will be in operation from 29 November 2025. The area has 74 lifts across 300 km of marked slopes at an altitude starting from 1,550m to 3,450 m.
