Croatia Sweeps the Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards with Six Wins

Dubrovnik Takes Centre Stage and Special Award for Sustainable Tourism

London, 6 November 2025 – Croatia has once again captivated the hearts of British travellers, claiming an impressive six awards at the 24th Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards, held last night at London's iconic National Gallery, overlooking Trafalgar Square. In a record-breaking year, more than four million Wanderlust readers cast their votes, celebrating the very best in global travel.

Croatia soared to new heights, being named Europe's second most desirable country, while its islands ranked fourth most desirable in Europe. The country's star of the evening, however, was Dubrovnik, which was crowned Europe's second most desirable city and received a Special Award for its groundbreaking sustainable tourism initiatives. Dubrovnik County and Istria also achieved top honours, ranking among top ten in the category of most desirable regions in Europe, showcasing Croatia's extraordinary diversity, beauty, and continued appeal across its coastline and inland destinations.

Hosted by Simon Reeve, renowned TV presenter, adventurer, and bestselling author, the glittering ceremony brought together leading figures from the international travel industry. Croatia took centre stage throughout the evening, reaffirming its status as one of Europe's most dynamic and beloved destinations among Wanderlust readers. The Special Award for Dubrovnik recognised the city's bold and tangible steps to transform its image from overtourism to sustainable stewardship. The accolade celebrated Dubrovnik's pioneering initiatives that both manage visitor numbers and enrich the lives of local residents. The Wanderlust Trophy was proudly accepted by Miro Drašković, Director of the Dubrovnik Tourist Board.

Bisera Fabrio, Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board's London Office, welcomed the honours, saying: “We are immensely proud that Wanderlust readers have once again recognised Croatia as one of Europe's leading destinations – from our stunning islands and the charm of Istria to the heritage and sustainable transformation of Dubrovnik. These five awards reflect Croatia's incredible diversity, beauty, and dedication to offering authentic, world-class experiences to every visitor. This recognition inspires us to continue sharing the very best of Croatia with British travellers.”

The Wanderlust accolades crown an exceptional week for Croatian tourism at World Travel Market London, the world's leading travel trade event, further reinforcing Croatia's premium position on the global tourism stage and its enduring appeal to the UK market.
