U.S. International Air Traffic Shifts in 2025: New Analysis Reveals Top Cities Losing and Gaining Air Traffic

New York, November 03, 2025 – According to the latest international air traffic data reports, several major U.S. cities are consistently losing year-over-year (YoY) international air traffic, with Las Vegas and Miami at the forefront of early-summer international declines – 9.8% and 4.5%, respectively.

2025 airport data reports showed June to be the most challenging month, with international traffic declines among 10 out of 15 analyzed major U.S. cities. While the majority of U.S. cities are experiencing a downward trend in international visitors, a select few showed unexpected growth with San Diego increasing its international air traffic by 14.1% YoY and Seattle by 9.7%.

These findings reveal how international travel demand is redistributing across U.S. cities as the U.S. faces a nationwide tourism crisis.

“The resilience of a few cities with international air traffic growth shows how traveler demand is shifting, often following new infrastructure rather than old habits,” says Aleksandr Andreichuk, CEO of Altezza Travel.

Key Findings

  • Las Vegas saw the steepest YoY decline in international air traffic in June 2025, down 9.8% and continuing a downward trend since February.
  • Miami ranked second among the cities that lost the most international air traffic, with monthly YoY declines throughout 2025, peaking at 10.5% YoY loss in May.
  • Honolulu, New York, and Orlando lost 3.8% of international air traffic YoY in June, with New York showing the most consistent YoY losses across 2025 compared to Honolulu and Orlando.
  • San Diego showed the highest international air traffic growth in June, with an increase of 14.1%.
  • Seattle and Boston were the only two cities that did not record any YoY international air traffic loss in 2025.

Methodology

The data for U.S. international air traffic shifts was gathered by analyzing the latest airport traffic reports from the most visited U.S. cities (according to International Trade Administration). By capturing international traffic data from airports in the respective metropolitan areas that serve commercial international flights, the Altezza Travel team pinpointed YoY changes for Q1 and Q2 months 2025.

Miami and Fort Lauderdale airport data were merged due to the proximity of the major airports in both cities. Therefore, international traffic data for Miami, combining airports in both Miami and Fort Lauderdale, reflects the broader South Florida travel market.
