This November, SwimTrek invites swimmers everywhere to take part in its most ambitious challenge yet – Swim The World 2025 – a free, global virtual swim with a collective goal to circle the planet's 40,075 km equatorial distance.
After seeing incredible growth and enthusiasm for the much-loved SwimTrek60K Virtual Swim, the SwimTrek community has inspired the team to take a bold new step forward.
“Our community's enthusiasm has blown us away!” said Simon Murie, Founder of SwimTrek. “What started as a 60-kilometre challenge has turned into a global movement. Now we're dreaming even bigger - together, we're going to swim the world.”
A Swim With Purpose: Protecting Our Oceans
SwimTrek's Swim The World challenge isn't just about endurance - it's about impact and global community. Swimmers from all corners of the world come together, connecting through the shared experience of swimming and contributing to a common goal. For every registered participant, SwimTrek will donate US$5 to Seatrees, a marine conservation non-profit that restores and protects blue-carbon ecosystems such as kelp forests, mangroves, and seagrass meadows.
“This challenge is about so much more than just distance,” said SwimTrek Founder, Simon Murie. “It's about uniting a global swimming community. Whether you're in a pool, river, lake, or the ocean, we're all coming together with a shared goal: connecting with the water, with each other and helping protect the oceans that sustain us."
As a proud 1% for the Planet and B Corp member, SwimTrek continues to channel the energy of its global community toward protecting the very environments that make open-water swimming possible.
From Swimming 38% of the World's Circumference to the Whole Thing!
Over the past few years, SwimTrek's virtual swim has become a fixture in the open-water calendar.
- In 2023, participants collectively swam 6,557 km. That's about the distance from Europe to South America.
- In 2024, that number more than doubled to 15,325 km. That's more than the distance from California to Singapore, all the way across the Pacific Ocean.
- Now, in 2025, SwimTrek is scaling up the goal – inviting swimmers around the world to collectively swim around the Earth.
The format remains inclusive and flexible: participants can swim individually or in teams of up to six, logging their distances throughout November in pools, lakes, rivers, or seas wherever they are in the world.
