As we head into autumn, the coastal towns of Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate on the Isle of Thanet take on a different appeal. The post-summer vibe is buzzing and vibrant, yet with a more mellow feel than in the peak season. The natural light is softer, delivering extra special Insta-worthy sunsets, plus there's still lots to do. This makes it a great time for mates, dates and mini-breakers to visit.
Here are four suggestions for a great break now, or at any time out of the main summer season.
Meet the locals and try something new
The Isle is not just a place to visit, but a place to create. Take the opportunity to express yourself, inspired by local know-how. Try a cocktail-making masterclass, leather workshop or glass-fusing experience.
Be refreshed by the spectacular natural landscape and big skies. Join a small group bike tour, cycle next to the sea and discover little-known places along with insider tips for things to see and do. Or relax in a sauna with stunning sea views, and maybe even see a famous 'Turner sunset'.
Sample a delicious and dynamic foodscape
Enjoy breakfast on a seafront double-decker bus, fish and chips overlooking yachts bobbing in the only Royal harbour in the country, friendly pop-ups, sharing plates and laid-back restaurants.
This year, Michelin named Margate in 'The 10 best seaside towns for food lovers in the UK & Ireland', and Broadstairs was featured in 'The UK's best seaside towns for food and drink' by Which Magazine.
Go 'Out Out'
The Isle is teeming with creative types, bringing fresh, exciting venues, diversity and an undeniable talent for epic vibes.
See headline acts at Dreamland, try nightclubs and grassroots venues like Where Else? and NME-rated Ramsgate Music Hall. Pop in to live-music pubs, check out what's on at the tiny Tom Thumb Theatre or The Granville Theatre, or enjoy coast and harbour night lights, strolls and sounds.
Top Stays
Come for the sunset, stay for the sunrise. Sleep easy in cosy fishermen's cottages, bright and airy seafront apartments, beautiful boutique hotels, a chapel or even a Volkswagen Camper. The Isle of Thanet has some seriously scroll-stopping places to stay.
