Despite Economic Uncertainty, Travel Remains a Priority

Longwoods International

According to the latest Longwoods International tracking study of American travelers, 39% of them say that of the factors limiting their leisure travel in the next year, the leading factor by a wide margin is financial constraints and economic uncertainty.  And 64% report that travel is becoming too expensive.

“Unsettling data on inflation and the state of the U.S. economy and job market are taking their toll on travel sentiment,” said Amir Eylon, President and CEO of Longwoods International.  “But even with these economic pressures, more than half of travelers are willing to reduce spending in other areas to be able to take that getaway or vacation.”

The perceived benefits of travel are highly regarded, with 78% saying that trips with friends and family bring them closer together and 72% rating travel experiences as more important than buying material possessions.  The recent experience with COVID-19 travel restrictions has 58% reporting they appreciate travel more now than they did pre-pandemic.

The survey, supported by Miles Partnership, was fielded September 10, 2025, using a national sample randomly drawn from a consumer panel of 1,000 adults, ages 18 and over.  Quotas were used to match Census targets for age, gender, and region to make the survey representative of the U. S. population.
