Greenwich Market Turns 288:

Join in the celebrations with a New Scavenger Hunt

Greenwich, London, 3 September 2025

Today, as Greenwich Market celebrates its remarkable 288th birthday, visitors are invited to join in the festivities with the launch of an exciting new Scavenger Hunt. Running until 2 November 2025, this free, family-friendly and culture-rich adventure is a highlight of the Visit Greenwich “Unmissable Destination” campaign.

The trail invites explorers to uncover five hidden “hearts” scattered around the market. Each heart unlocks fascinating stories, from centuries-old history and hidden heritage to quirky surprises and Hollywood moments. Along the way, visitors are challenged to snap creative selfies, solve riddles, and capture Instagram-worthy shots.

A Birthday with a Difference

Greenwich Market first opened on 3 September 1737 and today marks 288 years of trading. Through royal jubilees, world wars, and cultural revolutions, the market has remained a thriving hub for makers, traders, and visitors alike. Now, with this playful scavenger hunt, it's adding a new chapter of creativity and discovery to its long history.

A Hunt for All Ages

  • For Families: A treasure-hunt style adventure that keeps kids engaged while they explore the Market.
  • For Culture Seekers: A chance to dig deeper into Greenwich's stories, heritage, and cinematic moments - including the market's starring role in Now You See Me 2.

Celebrating “Unmissable Greenwich”

Part of Visit Greenwich's “Unmissable Destination” campaign, the scavenger hunt highlights the borough's reputation as London's most cinematic location, home to world-famous filming spots, riverside beauty, royal heritage, and thriving cultural life.

“Greenwich Market has always been full of hidden stories,” said Rachid Ghalaine, Senior Market Operations Manager“  As we celebrate our 288th birthday, this scavenger hunt offers a fun and interactive way for families, locals, and visitors to discover the secrets that make Greenwich so special.”

The Greenwich Market Scavenger Hunt is free to join, available daily until 2 November 2025.
