Iglu Ski Reveals how you can save £6,000 on your first family ski trip

Whether it's how to get there, which resort to go to, or finding the perfect accommodation, when it comes to booking a ski holiday, there's one factor that influences our decisions above all else: value for money

In fact, in Iglu Ski's 24/25 annual survey, 59% of customers say it's the primary factor influencing their choice of resort. For 68%, it's the most important consideration when deciding on who to book with. And, cited by 24%, it's the leading factor in accommodation selection

Value for money is especially important for families. Many parents are excited for their kids to discover the mountains, and even though the added cost of each young skier can test the purse strings, you don't want to cut every corner and risk losing out on what makes a ski holiday magical - incredible snow, exceptional hospitality, and a fun time for the whole family.

Iglu Ski has been finding its customers the very best ski trips for their money for over 26 years, so they know that getting value doesn't necessarily have to mean compromise. They've crunched the numbers and drawn on their expertise to show you just how much you can get for your money when you book smart.

According to Iglu research, you can save on average:

£175pp (per person) when you split the cost of a large chalet with other families

£580pp by skiing over Easter

£500pp by booking all-inclusive over half-board

£461pp by staying on the edge of a large ski area instead of in the centre

Around £400pp by driving instead of flying over peak periods

Around £222 per child at resorts where kids ski free up to 8 or 9 years of age

Roughly £195pp with a beginner lift pass, over a full area lift pass

Up to £32pp with a family lift pass (based on family of four)

Euros to GBP accurate on 04/07/25

As you can see, by making a few smart decisions you can save hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds and still have an amazing ski holiday without feeling like you're compromising.

For example, let's say you and your partner want to take your two children (ages 6 and 8) on a skiing holiday to the Portes du Soleil.

If you take all the above into consideration, you could end up with the following great value itinerary:

Accommodation

14 - 16 bed chalet

Half board hotel

Transport

Drive

Flights

Resort

Les Gets

Morzine

Date

First week of Easter

Half Term

Lift passes

2 whole area and 2 beginner

4 full area

Total

£5,000

£11,200

  • Book a large catered chalet in Les Gets over the first week of the Easter holiday (departing 28th March 2026): £3,020 in total
  • Drive to the Alps: £1,060 in total
  • Get two 6-day adult whole area passes: £620 in total
  • Get two 6-day Les Gets beginner passes: £300 in total
  • For a total cost of £5,000

On the other hand, if you took none of the above into consideration, you could:

  • Book a February half term package trip to Morzine, with flights, transfers and seven nights in a hotel on half board: £10,112
  • Get two 6-day adult whole area passes: £620 in total
  • Get two 6-day child whole area passes: £468 in total
  • For a total of £11,200

That means, if you follow all Iglu's advice on how to have a value for money family skiing holiday, you could save a massive £6,200!

Iglu's Head of Sales and Service, Phil Wright, who goes skiing with his two-year-old, says: “Easter is a great time to ski as a young family, particularly when it falls over the last week of March and the first week of April. It's the cheapest of the peak dates, the air temperature is a bit warmer so no biting cold, and resorts tend to get lots of fresh snow around this time, too.”
