
Conway Scenic's Crawford 150th Anniversary Special on August 2nd will commemorate 150 years of railroad service over New Hampshire's Crawford Notch. This will include a special ceremony and historical re-enactment. Boarding begins at North Conway at 9am on August 2nd, 2025.
The August 2nd, Crawford 150th Anniversary Special is a one-time event that offers a variation of the Mountaineer running a special 5-6 hour schedule. It departs North Conway, N.H. Station at 9:30am for a commemorative run over Crawford Notch to mark the completion of the railroad that occurred back on August 7, 1875. This includes a special ceremony at the west end of run. Please be advised that the ceremony is likely to involve very loud sounds in an effort to recreate the cacophonous events of 1875. Advance ticket purchase is advised. Boarding begins at 9am.
Conway Scenic's Mountaineer
Conway Scenic's Mountaineer excursion over Crawford Notch now makes two roundtrips between North Conway, N.H. and Crawford Notch on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays! First train departs at 9am! The trip takes a four-hour round trip on the former Maine Central Mountain Division, a line completed by the Portland & Ogdensburg Railroad in August 1875.
Both runs carry classic Budd Vista Domes. These glass-topped streamlined cars were built in the 1950s for western transcontinental trains. Today, you can enjoy a Vista Dome trip on the Mountaineer. First class and Coach seating options are also available.
Conway Scenic also offers its one-hour Valley Train excursion on its Conway Branch. This runs up to six times daily and is ideal for families with children.

150th Events August 2025
Friday, August 1, 7:00 PM Bartlett Historical Society Museum - Presentation at the Bartlett, NH Congregational Church titled, 'A Century of Railroading in Crawford Notch' by Ben English, historian and author. This is about the operation of the Maine Central's Mountain Division from the age of steam to the age of diesel. Ben talks about trains and the people that made transportation by rail through Crawford Notch happen.
Saturday, August 2, 2025 North Conway Station 9:30 AM – The Crawford 150th Anniversary Special. The excursion boards at 9 AM. This special train train will feature a special narration and at Fabyan station, a special program commemorating the track completion on August 7, 1875. There will be music by the Mt Washington Valley Community Band and Cannon Salutes by the 6th Maine Artillery Brigade Re-enactors as happened at the original celebration 150 years ago.
