Tourism Shizuoka Japan

For the first time this summer Fuji Dream Airlines' exclusive scenic charter flight, offering customers the chance to see majestic Mt. Fuji up close, is available to book as a standalone experience. Departing from Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport, the route is operating on weekends and public holidays throughout July and August, with additional departures now added for September and October.

The popular sightseeing experience is the only one of its kind in the prefecture and has previously only been bookable as part of a wider tour package. Customers can now make an independent booking, allowing them to fit the experience in around their own travel plans.

Unlike regular flights that offer a rare glimpse as they pass over the mountain on route to other destinations, this unique tour glides at a lower altitude, passing the famous landmark before descending back into its departure airport.

Customers are transported on either a 76-seat or 84-seat Embraer aircraft and for optimum visibility, flights depart in the early morning at 7:30am, landing back on solid ground within an hour. Complimentary refreshments of local tea and Japanese snacks are provided to enjoy on the flight to complete the experience.

The route is designed to provide close-up views of Mt. Fuji, but other local sights that can be visible from the skies include the Japanese Southern Alps and Shizuoka's spectacular coastline, including Suruga Bay, and Shimizu Port.

Fares are available from 20,000 JPY (approx. £101) per person, exclusive of fuel surcharge and passenger facility costs, and tickets must be booked at least seven days in advance via Fuji Dream Airlines' website. Children under the age of 3 years old can travel for free with an accompanying paying adult

About Shizuoka

Just one hour from Tokyo by bullet train, Shizuoka prefecture is home to the iconic Mount Fuji. It boasts a spectacular natural environment of coastline, mountains and lakes, including the beautiful Izu Peninsula, which has been described as “Japan's Riviera” and was designated as a Global Geopark by UNESCO in April 2018. The region is steeped in history, has a huge choice of traditional ryokan inns and onsen hot springs, and is also a gourmet paradise. Its natural environment produces some of the country's best food and drink, from green tea and wasabi to fresh seafood. Shizuoka is Japan's biggest producer of green tea.
