Ways to Spend This Sunny Summer Solstice in Greenwich

Visit Greenwich

Take advantage of the longest day of the year – and this gorgeous London heatwave – this Summer Solstice in Unmissable Greenwich.

Arrive at Greenwich Pier by boat on a City Cruises River Cruise and get whisked out on the cool waters of the Thames. With the wind breezing through your hair on the open-air top deck, and live commentary filling in tales from the river and more, you'll have plenty of chances to get that panoramic hero shot worthy of framing. If there's a better way to spend the solstice than cruising one of the world's greatest rivers, we'd love to know what it is.and begin your film-inspired walking tour taking in all of Greenwich's cinematic glory.

The first stop is the Old Royal Naval College & Painted Hall. Enter the world of Skyfall, The Crown, Bridgerton and more. As the UK's most popular filming location the roll call of movies shot here is too long to mention, how many can you think of? Find out more on the dedicated Film Tour – Wigs, Weddings, Powder and Palaces a guided journey through Greenwich's rich screen history.

Next it's time to soak up the history and splendour of World Heritage-listed Maritime Greenwich, the perfect backdrop to your own modern-day fairytale story. Step into the scene where Bridget Jones met Mark Darcy outside the bank; get transported back to the 1920s when Vita & Virginia made names for themselves; or be enchanted by the friends-to-lovers story of Penelope and Colin in the latest series of Bridgerton

Even Hollywood needs to eat right? Peruse the menus at the global street food stalls of Greenwich Market and take your pick. Is it India, Ethiopian, Jamaican or Japanese today? Whatever you choose to eat, you'll be transported to another place with the first bite.

The characterful market with its glass roof is one of the centre points for local life in Greenwich, but if you spy the likes of Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrleson, Lizzy Caplan, Morgan Freeman or Michael Caine – you're probably watching the 2018 heist film Now You See Me 2.

With your lunch mission complete, Greenwich beckons with more to see and do – and the sun doesn't set until late (trust us, this is the site of the Prime Meridian we know the time) – so your adventure is far from over.

Take a stroll through Greenwich Park, the site for several notable films beginning with the 1936 film Sabotage. There's nothing like a quiet stroll with trees rich with leaves, birds chirping and perhaps some children playing nearby to set the mood. Quiet reflection, romantic developments, maybe some philosophical discussions – a park stroll is your classic film trope.

Returning back towards the water, and continue your stroll through the Palladian architecture of the University of Greenwich. If you weren't feeling regal already, the sweeping columns and broad sweep of lawns of the Royal Court will take you there.

The sun will be heading for the horizon now, and it's time for you to get the best views possible – by flying over the Thames on the IFS Cloud Cable Car. Time it right and you'll see London's city skyline softened by a dusk sky. Float and keep the longest and most magical day going on a champagne experience flight before zipping back to Maritime Greenwich by Uber Boat by Thames Clipper. Disembark like you're one of the Clooneys stepping off a fellow celebrity's catamaran and continue on your SetJetting tour.
