Olympic Day 2025: The Paris 2024 Games' Tourism Legacy

Atout France

As Olympic Day on 23 June approaches, Atout France has produced a press kit presenting the statistics and initiatives spearheaded by Paris 2024, a roadmap to capitalise on the Games' impact on the image of France as a destination, and how you can follow the trail of the Games to extend the Olympic experience

This dedicated press kit is intended to maintain the momentum created by last summer's spectacular event, helping to support France's ambition to become the world's leading sustainable, innovative and inclusive tourist destination by 2030. The kit answers to the rise of sports tourism, the renewed appeal of local artisan savoir-faire and wine tourism, France's central location in Europe and the potential of its overseas territories – all of which are promoted to visitors seeking new experiences.

It sets out the lasting changes visible since the Games: greener transport, improved access to tourist sites, new visitor services such as apps catering to those with disabilities and innovative luggage solutions, and the repurposing of major hubs such as the Athletes' Village in the Saint-Denis Pleyel district, which now provides residents with 2,220 additional housing units and attractive business premises.

The press kit includes two-day itinerary ideas to extend the Olympic experience, from Paris and Versailles to Marseille to Lille. It lists 15 destinations for history, scenery and savoir-faire and follows the 2025 tour route of Zeus, the iconic metal horse that galloped along the Seine during the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony. Further capitalising on the popularity of sports tourism, it also suggests a range of outdoor breaks across 8 regions, comprising numerous lesser-known sporting activities open to all visitors.

Finally, it takes a look at the action plan which Atout France has actioned in conjunction with the Paris 2024 Organising Committee and the country's regions. The plan has three aims: to improve the quality of France's tourist welcome, to capitalise on media attention, and to promote France's events expertise. The plan is aimed not only at the general public, but also at the business tourism sector and professionals across the tourism industry.

With 48 disciplines showcased across 35 competition sites and almost 15,000 athletes competing from 206 countries, the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games demonstrated France's ability to organise major innovative, community-oriented, accessible and secure events while promoting its regions. The Games also set multiple records in terms of attendance and engagement: with 12 million tickets sold, almost 8 million people gathering at the celebration sites across France, and 100% of the consumed energy coming from renewable sources.

Paris 2024 redefined and enriched France's image on the world stage, highlighting a nation that is both proud of its heritage and resolutely looking to the future. France will extend Paris 2024's legacy with the 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, branded as 'French Alps 2030' and a unique opportunity to showcase the French mountains.
