- More than half of Britons (58%) say they're looking for a beach break holiday this year
- Yet almost two-fifths (38%) say they've come back after a relaxed holiday still feeling exhausted
- 83% willing to swap beach holiday for shorter more adventurous and active experiences
New research from Travelzoo — the club for travel enthusiasts that reaches 30 million travellers with outstanding travel, entertainment and lifestyle experiences — reveals that more than half of Britons (58%) are planning a beach break this year, yet 38% admit they've returned from a “relaxing” holiday still feeling exhausted.
This shift in sentiment signals a major change in how travellers want to holiday in 2025. According to the study, a strong majority (83%) of people would be willing to swap a traditional beach break for a shorter, more adventurous and active experience – suggesting holidaymakers are increasingly seeking more fulfilling ways to spend their time away.
When asked why they're turning to more adventurous travel, nearly half of respondents (49%) say it's to create lasting memories, while 38% want to experience something more meaningful. A further (36%) say they're motivated by a desire to feel healthier or more active, and interestingly, almost a third (32%) say an adventure-style trip gives them a genuine sense of achievement. Only 17% would never consider an adventurous travel experience.
The benefits of active travel are reflected in how people feel afterwards. Compared to traditional beach breaks, 39% of Brits say they feel more accomplished after an adventurous holiday, 35% feel more fulfilled, 31% report feeling more energised, and 26% feel more culturally enriched. Notably, over two in five (41%) believe this style of travel helps improve both their mental and physical wellbeing.
