Biking: Paznaun - Ischgl joins the Gravity Card network and opens new trails
Paznaun - Ischgl is a long-term favourite among mountain biking fans with an impressive 754 km of suitable trails. And from this year it will be even more attractive: The Silvretta Bike Arena Ischgl/Samnaun and the Silva Trails Galtür are joining the Gravity Card network, giving bikers access to 30 top destinations in seven European countries. The region also has brand new trails, including the Fima Pass Marathon, a 80-km tour from Ischgl to Samnaun, with a cable car back to the starting point, and a 30-km tour along the Austrian and Swiss border, connecting Ischgl and Ramosch. Silvapark Galtür has several new mountainbike trails, two blue ones for beginners and three longer and more difficult ones with red and black sections for experienced bikers.
Bikers up for the ultimate challenge (and those who just love watching sporty events), can look forward to the 30th edition of the Ischgl Ironbike, one of the toughest races in the world (8-9 August). Equally fun – but slightly less competitive – is the E-Bike World Championship for Everyone, a three-day event with options for beginners, experts and teams (4-6 September).
Hiking: A European quality seal and a brand new tour
131 km, 9 stages, 1 big adventures: The Paznaun High Route has just received the Leading Quality Trails – Best of Europe award. The long-distance trail, showing off the region's unique varied landscapes and taking hikers up to 9,733 m, starts in See and continues all the way through Ischgl, Galtür, Kappl and back. A good level of fitness is required. A shorter, less challenging alternative is the brand new 14-km Val Gronda hiking tour along the Swiss border, starting at Flimjoch and finishing at the Heidelberger Hut – stunning views included. In total, Paznaun – Ischgl boasts a network of more than 1,000 km of hiking trails.
An event highlight not to be missed is the Silvretta Ferwall March in Galtür, which has attracted hiking fans from around the world for over five decades. Trail options range from beginner- and family-friendly to expert routes (23 August). Guests up for a run will love the Paznaun Ischgl Ultra Trail (PIUT), which returns for the second round after its successful premiere in 2024. There are five routes to choose from between 20 and 100 km (11-12 July).
New attractions for families: How to keep the kids busy
Families are equally in for a treat in Paznaun-Ischgl: New this year is Seebi's Bear World on the Medrigalm pasture, a sunique playground with a 6-m wooden bear, water features, climbing and balancing activities. Kappl awaits with a new Escape Trail, an outdoor version of the classic Escape Room where families leave with a backpack full of puzzles and clues to solve a mystery. Climbing fan? The region has also added some new family-friendly via ferratas.
Of course, sometimes holidays are really just about having a relaxing time, and families are well catered for in that area, too: The Silvretta Therme extends its offer throughout the summer and opens ist outdoor pools with a special family area.
Culinary Ischgl: Top restaurants and events for gourmands
Paznaun – Ischgl is also a hotspot for foodies inviting guests to enjoy both down-to-earth Tyrolean cuisine at the traditional mountain huts and exquisite gourmet experiences at more high-end restaurants.
The popular event series Culinary Paznaun sees local top chefs create unique regional specialties served in eight selected mountain lodges and alpine pastures throughout the summer - a great opportunity to sample Tyrolean cuisine (4 July - 17 August). Cheese lovers should mark the 27 September in their calendar when the annual International Cheese Olympics take place: More than 100 Alpine dairies from Austria, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Liechtenstein compete with their best cheeses. An expert jury and a group of kids decide about the winner.
