Lisbon Named World's Second-Busiest City for Congresses and Events

Turismo de Lisboa

Lisbon has been officially recognised as the world's second most popular city for hosting congresses and events in 2024, according to the latest rankings from the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).

With 153 associative congresses held, Lisbon has climbed one position in the global ranking, narrowly trailing Vienna by just one event. Completing the world's top five are Singapore, Barcelona and Prague - all key players on the international events scene.

At a national level, Lisbon accounts for more than 50% of Portugal's congresses and events, reinforcing its status as the country's leading destination for business tourism.

Mayor Carlos Moedas said: "This award positions Lisbon in the world as a great capital of organisation and management. Lisbon has established itself as a favoured destination for holding events and congresses, due to the quality and diversity of its infrastructure and the professionalism of the sector. Lisbon is increasingly attractive today because it retains its identity, the genuineness of Lisbon combined with the innovation of the sector make Lisbon an increasingly differentiating city on the world stage".

The ICCA's 2024 global ranking evaluates cities based on infrastructure quality, support services, accessibility and overall capacity to host international events - underscoring Lisbon's growing reputation as a top-tier destination for conferences and conventions.
