Capricorn Coast, Southern Great Barrier Reef artist Lyn Diefenbach has achieved one of the highest honours in the international art world, selected as a judge for the upcoming International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS) Exhibition—a prestigious role that affirms her place among the world's elite pastel artists.

A professional artist for more than 30 years, Lyn became the first Southern Hemisphere artist to earn the title of Eminent Pastellist in 2019, one of only around 20 artists globally to achieve the status.

Her latest appointment as an IAPS judge follows a landmark year in 2024, during which she was awarded an Award of Excellence in the IAPS Master Circle Exhibition for a striking painting of Rockhampton Bombax trees, served on the teaching faculty at both the IAPS Convention and the Plein Air Convention and Expo in the Smoky Mountains, and claimed a prize in the American Society of Portrait Artists Members Only Competition.

“Being invited to judge the IAPS Exhibition is one of the greatest validations of my career,” Lyn said.

“It's a privilege to represent not only my art but also the incredible creative talent that exists here on the Capricorn Coast.”

Lyn's busy 2025 schedule is equally impressive, with teaching invitations in Hawaii, Alaska, and France, as well as ongoing workshops in Yeppoon that attract artists from around Australia.

She is also preparing for a solo exhibition in January and planning a Masterclass in partnership with the Rockhampton Museum of Art in 2026.

Capricorn Enterprise CEO Mary Carroll praised Lyn's achievements as a reflection of the region's rich artistic culture.

“Lyn's international success shines a spotlight on the extraordinary talent we have here on the Capricorn Coast,” Mary said.

“Her ability to inspire and attract artists from across the globe proves that regional Queensland is not only a place of natural beauty but also a thriving hub for artistic excellence.”

Lyn's journey continues to inspire emerging artists and strengthen the Capricorn Coast's reputation as a cultural destination of national and international significance.
