As summer draws near, The Lavender Fields team are preparing to welcome visitors to their beautiful farm in the heart of the Hampshire countryside. Opening for the 2025 season on Monday 16th June, this family-run attraction is a must-visit destination for creating unforgettable memories, soaking in spectacular views, and capturing beautiful photographs amidst fields of fragrant blooms.
The Lavender Fields are located just over an hour's drive from London. They are nestled outside the charming market town of Alton, Hampshire, and set against the ancient Selborne Hanger woodland. This corner of Hampshire is steeped in literary heritage and close to Chawton, the former home of Jane Austen and where she wrote her six beloved novels.
This year marks the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen's birth, with events, exhibitions, and celebrations happening worldwide. For Austen fans visiting the area, particularly during the 21st to 29th June, Regency Week, The Lavender Fields provides a serene and quintessentially English floral experience to complement their literary pilgrimage.
Owned and run by Nick and Lyndsay Butler, The Lavender Fields is situated at Hartley Park Farm. The Butler farming legacy stretches back to the 1930s. Lavender was first planted and farmed here in 1999, and The Lavender Fields have opened annually to the public since 2001. Visitors can stroll through rows of vibrant lavender and enjoy a picnic or indulge in seasonal refreshments from the on-site coffee shop, which include cakes, cream teas during July, and drinks with a view. Dogs on leads are welcome too.
The Lavender Fields gift and coffee shop is open all year round, offering everything from lavender ice-cream to hand creams, soaps, room sprays, and even lavender jams, all made using the farm's own lavender. These sit alongside other lavender-themed gifts and products made. There is also a selection of produce from other local businesses. They also have an online store for those who are unable to visit in person.
Photographers and content creators adore The Lavender Fields. The iconic setting is ideal for family portraits, fashion shoots, and filming. Professional photographers can book sessions via the website.
The lavender is beginning to stir and will be greening up before bursting into bloom from mid-June onwards. The season typically runs until mid-August, with different lavender varieties flowering at different times. The team closely monitors the field's progress and will keep visitors updated via their website and social media channels.
Whether you're returning for another peaceful day out or planning your first visit, The Lavender Fields offers an inspiring countryside escape filled with natural beauty, warm hospitality, and the sweet scent of summer.
