REMOTE Immersion Antigua begins next week, uniting global travel leaders for transformative tourism in Latin America
May 13, 2025 – Antigua, Guatemala — The wait is over: REMOTE Immersion Antigua is ready to welcome its vibrant community of travel professionals, entrepreneurs, and visionaries to the heart of Guatemala. From May 19 to 22, the UNESCO-listed city of Antigua will host the 8th edition of REMOTE's signature gathering, bringing together 215 carefully selected participants who share a common mission—to help shape the future of responsible tourism in Latin America and the Caribbean.
This first 2025 edition of REMOTE Immersion features 85 handpicked lodgings and DMCs from 15 Latin American countries, along with 86 travel designers from 15 global markets, including Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Guatemala, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. United by experience, curiosity, and a shared commitment to transformative tourism, each participant will engage in up to 51 curated meetings across three mornings of connection and collaboration.
“Some are joining us for the first time. Others are long-time REMOTERS. All of them bring purpose—and they are the essence of REMOTE,” said Marcelo Pontes, Commercial Director of REMOTE Latin America.
REMOTE Immersion follows a unique format designed to foster deep connection: structured business meetings in the mornings, immersive experiences throughout the destination in the afternoons, and evenings filled with inspiring talks, meaningful content, and relaxed social gatherings. This dynamic rhythm encourages networking that extends far beyond scheduled meetings, cultivating lasting relationships rooted in shared values and purpose.
Humans & Technology: Embracing Synergy in Tourism
This edition's REMOTE Talks & Seeds series—curated conversations that take place just before dinner—explores the theme Humans & Technology: Embracing Synergy in Tourism. Through keynotes, case studies, and interactive panels, participants will discuss how technology can enhance storytelling, streamline operations, and improve guest experiences while preserving the authenticity of human connection.
Featured sessions include:
-
Francisco Estrada-Belli, award-winning archaeologist — “Unearthing the Hidden Maya: How Technology Is Redefining Archaeology”
-
Karolina Guilcapi, Sated Ventures (USA) — “Culinary Anthropology: Connecting Travelers to Culture, One Bite at a Time”
-
Elizabeth Frels, Ker & Downey (USA) — “Artificial Intelligence in Travel: Enhancing Growth Without Losing the Human Touch”
-
Multinational panel — “Navigating the Travel Supply Chain: How to Find the Right Business Partners in Latin America”.
Sustainability in Action in Antigua
As part of REMOTE's long-term vision, the Antigua edition places a strong emphasis on local engagement and responsible practices. The REMOTE Sustainability Strategy—developed in partnership with the NGO Regenera and inspired by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Criteria and the UN Sustainable Development Goals—has been thoughtfully adapted to the local context of Antigua.
In collaboration with 11 local host hotels, official DMC Viaventure Central America, and the REMOTE team, the event is focused on minimizing its environmental footprint while maximizing its positive impact. Sustainability initiatives include offsetting 70 tons of CO₂ through the Estufas Chispa project, which supports the installation of clean cookstoves for 14 rural families in Guatemala; reducing the use of single-use plastics and overall waste across event operations; promoting water and energy conservation at partner venues; showcasing Guatemalan culture through cuisine, art, and immersive storytelling; and designing low-impact experiences with local providers that celebrate the destination's natural beauty and cultural identity. These efforts aim to inspire participants to engage in a more conscious, immersive, and respectful visit.
REMOTE Legacy for the Community
On May 21, REMOTE will present the 6th edition of REMOTE Legacy, a free, Spanish-language event co-created with CAMTUR (Guatemala's Tourism Chamber). With the theme “Embracing Synergy in Tourism,” the event welcomes community members, students, and tourism professionals to join a morning of inspiring talks by guides, consultants, and archaeologists from Guatemala, Costa Rica, and the U.S. REMOTE Legacy is open to all local participants with an interest in tourism.
