A New Chapter in London's Cultural Heart: The Ambassadors Hotel Celebrates the Spirit of Bloomsbury and Relaunches as The Memoir Club

Memoir Club

May 2025 - Since opening its doors in 1908 as an independent beacon of hospitality in the heart of London, a historic Bloomsbury landmark has remained a cherished haven for travellers and locals alike. Today, the property unveils a bold new identity following its total refurbishment and relaunch as The Memoir Club - a transformative reinvention of The Ambassadors Bloomsbury Hotel.  Costing in excess of £7m, it blends enduring heritage with modern sophistication and caters for a dynamic new generation of discerning guests.

The legacy of the Bloomsbury Set—innovators, writers, and artists who lived or mingled in the charming Regency squares and in the surrounding establishments - is woven into every facet of the reimagined hotel. The comprehensive and impeccable renovation of the hotel pays tribute to this influential cultural history. It takes its new name from the club set up in 1920 by the local circle of Bloomsbury-loving friends, the purpose of which was to provide a platform for personal narratives and to foster a sense of community.

Named one of the best places to live in London by The Times in 2025, Bloomsbury continues to influence creative expression.  Each reimagined guestroom and public space embodies the artistic and intellectual dynamism that once shaped Bloomsbury's Bohemian and progressive circles. Thoughtfully curated interiors—featuring commissioned artworks, period-inspired décor, and nuanced design elements like the carpet subtly interwoven with motifs evoking Virginia Woolf's literary legacy— create an experience that is expressive of a rich cultural past.

General Manager, George Konstas, commented, “We are immensely proud to unveil our new transformation —a celebration of both our storied past and dynamic future. The Memoir Club embodies the spirit of innovation and artistic expression that has always been at the heart of Bloomsbury. Guests will not only experience world-class hospitality but also immerse themselves in a living narrative of culture, creativity, and community.”

Accommodation - Leading the design overhaul was ICA Studio, based in Glasgow, which has shrewdly woven a crisp new design into The Memoir Club's 100 guestrooms -  reminiscent of the art deco movement of Bloomsbury's heyday. Each of the six guestroom categories feature all the modern comforts that are to be expected by solo travellers and couples alike, such as Apple TV, Nespresso coffee machines, eco-friendly amenities, and plenty of charging points for tech-savvy travellers too. Naturally, throughout each room choice, there is enough room for residents to work, or to write their very own memoir should they feel inspired.

Adeline Restaurant - Beyond its accommodations, The Memoir Club is designed to cater to a diverse range of guests who are open-minded, design conscious and appreciate exceptional food and drink.  Locals, visitors and residents are sure to delight in the invigorated restaurant, named Adeline in homage to Virginia Woolf's birth name. Ideal for an informal or intimate lunch for two (favoured by Ms Woolf), it is also a place to enjoy in larger groups. It offers an innovative Eastern-Mediterranean menu inspired by Virginia's travels - which she described as “delightful and adventurous” - paired with distinctive cocktail creations named after other Bloomsbury luminaries such as the Champagne-based Keynes Twister.

Communal areas - Like the Bloomsbury Salons they reference, the restaurant bar, terrace and lobby are homely and with just the right amount of glamour and set up to rest, work or collaborate. Guests may move from a shared coffee on the sofa to a drink at the bar effortlessly and order food from a choice of snacks or menus to suit mood and taste.

Meeting Rooms - Stylishly and cleverly designed event spaces, large and small, are highly flexible and perfect for fostering fun, creativity and professional engagement.  They can accommodate intimate meetings, or social occasions up to 300 people for a drinks reception. For a larger scale conference or corporate event - groups up to 264 delegates, theatre-style can easily be accommodated. The Team is enthusiastic to adapt these harmonious and creative spaces, named after some of the original Club luminaries – Strachey, Keynes and Forster – to ensure the event in hand is a special one.  Logistically, The Memoir Club is an ideal central London location for corporates, a five-minute walk from Euston Station and ten minutes from St. Pancras Station, means delegates can arrive at either station and be at the hotel within minutes.

As The Memoir Club continues the celebrated legacy of its former identity, it reaffirms its steadfast commitment to providing a haven where history, art, and modern luxury interlace seamlessly. It is a venue that is both exclusive and inclusive — a 'club' where the happiness of its staff is key and who dedicate themselves to meeting the individualized needs of each guest, ensuring every stay is both personal and inspiring in surroundings steeped in local culture.

Lead-in rates for a Club Double start from £249.00 including breakfast.
