Aussies are rediscovering their love for Hong Kong with a steady increase of Australian arrivals throughout 2024, bolstered by a particularly strong surge in arrivals for the first quarter of 2025. The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) has recorded an impressive 32% year-on-year increase in Australian visitation.
This positive growth can be attributed in part to an action-packed calendar of citywide events, with Hong Kong recently wrapping up 'Super March', a month-long celebration featuring key mega events, including LIV Golf, Art Basel Hong Kong and the iconic Hong Kong Sevens – staged for the first time at the spectacular new Kai Tak Sports Park.
Visitation is currently outpacing direct air capacity, further highlighting the demand for the dynamic destination. But in other good news for Hong Kong-curious consumers, air capacity is also on an upward trajectory. Cathay Pacific operates daily ex Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth; Qantas operates daily ex Sydney and Melbourne; and Hong Kong Airlines is entering the market ex Sydney with a daily service from 21 June 2025 bringing more competition to the popular route.
Karen Macmillan, Director, Australia, New Zealand & South Pacific said, “We're thrilled to see such strong momentum from the Australian market. Hong Kong is back in a big way, from world-class events to exciting new infrastructure and Aussies are clearly embracing the energy, flavour and spirit of the city once again.”
