Sofitel Melbourne On Collins Celebrates the Arts in May with Immersive Cultural Experiences

Sofitel Hotels & Resorts

This May, Sofitel Melbourne On Collins cements its position as the city's definitive Hotel for the Arts, presenting a series of captivating cultural collaborations spanning theatre, literature, and design. A proud supporter of Melbourne's vibrant creative landscape, Sofitel continues to champion experiences that elevate the city's global reputation as a UNESCO City of Literature and cultural capital.

STAY AND SEE HADESTOWN EXPERIENCES

Kicking off a dynamic month of arts and entertainment, Sofitel is proud to announce its official partnership as Luxury Hotel Partner for the Tony® and Grammy® Award-winning musical Hadestown, presented in collaboration with Opera Australia and Jones Theatrical Group.

  • Indulge in Stay and See Packages with accommodation in a luxurious room, offering panoramic views of the Melbourne skyline, enjoy a sumptuous buffet breakfast for two in No.35 restaurant, savour a drink in The Atrium Bar and two A-Reserve tickets to the show. Available from 11 May until July.
  • From 10 May, you can enjoy a collection of Hadestown-themed Cocktails before the show in the hotel's iconic The Atrium Bar on 35, echoing the themes and atmosphere of the show.

  • An exclusive Accor Plus Member Event will take place on 12 June, with a money-can't buy experience with cast members.

MELBOURNE WRITERS FESTIVAL RESIDENCY (8 – 11 MAY)

Lovers of reading will find their home at Sofitel during the Melbourne Writers Festival, with the hotel proudly supporting Melbourne's status as a UNESCO City of Literature.

  • The hotel is hosting an intimate afternoon tea with Sarah Wilson chatting to Georgia Frances King on Saturday 10 May about her career and finding meaning in a world grappling with social, political, and environmental upheaval.
  • Throughout May, guests will discover a pop-up library in the hotel lobby, featuring the works of visiting local and international authors, bringing the Festival to life.
  • Sofitel guests will also encounter a special Phone-a-Poem installation in the Sofitel foyer for the duration of the Festival. Dial a number on a landline handset to hear new poetry read by regional Victorian poets.

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE: SARAH TRACTON'S ALCHEMY OF LIGHT

In partnership with Melbourne Design Week (15–25 May), Sofitel welcomes acclaimed artist Sarah Tracton as the next talented Artist in Residence.

  • From 15 May to 30 June, her spellbinding light installations will illuminate the Archway Lobby and Level 35 Promenade, offering guests a sensory journey into light, texture, and emotion.
  • The exhibition is presented via the National Gallery of Victoria platform as part of Melbourne Design Week, and an initiative of the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria.
  • As part of the experience, Tracton has also crafted special battery-powered sculptural light trays that double as serving vessels. In collaboration with Sofitel chefs, bespoke canapés will be served on these art pieces, blurring the lines between art and cuisine.

An invitation-only Launch event will be hosted on 21 May, and two public “Meet the Designer” sessions will be presented on             18 and 24 May at the hotel during Melbourne Design Week.

As the city's Hotel for the Arts, Sofitel Melbourne On Collins acts as a living gallery, a literary salon, and a performance stage. With dedicated partnerships across Melbourne's top cultural institutions and festivals, Sofitel is proud to serve as the luxury gateway to the city's artistic heartbeat.
