La Palma: The Canary Island Where Adventure Meets the Stars
Celebrate the 15th Anniversary of Transvulcania and Discover the Wild Side of La Isla Bonita
London, 15 April 2025 – La Palma, Canary Islands, celebrates the 15th anniversary of Transvulcania on 10th May, one of the world's most prestigious mountain ultramarathons hosted by the Cabildo Insular de La Palma, and the Government of the Canary Islands, supported by a wealth of eco-conscious organisations. The most untouched of the Canary Islands is the perfect antidote to the bustle of islands and cities in the Mediterranean, and this May, La Isla Bonita gets surreal beauty, deep-rooted culture, and sustainable tourism into motion.
The Trail That Tells a Story
The Transvulcania experience takes runners of all levels through a cinematic landscape: volcanic cones, emerald laurel forests, rocky ravines, and coastal cliffs that tumble into the Atlantic. The route follows the legendary Ruta del Bastón, offering jaw-dropping views, especially from Roque de los Muchachos, the island's highest point, where the race literally rises above the clouds. It delves into centuries-old trails across the island's diverse terrain and shifts with every kilometre – from dense forests to volcanic deserts, wildflower meadows to black-sandy beaches. It's an island made for exploration, reflection, and reconnection.
Where Sustainability Leads the Way
With a clear commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Transvulcania has positioned itself as a model of responsible tourism and environmental stewardship. Through partnerships with local communities, public institutions and sponsors aligned with responsible tourism, the event actively contributes to preserving the island's fragile beauty.
Outdoor Playground for the Soul
La Palma is far more than a race. It's a sanctuary for hikers, stargazers, and nature seekers. Recognised as a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, the island has carved out its identity as an eco-friendly destination. The skies are protected by law against light pollution, earning La Palma the title of Starlight Reserve – a dreamscape for astrophotographers and nature lovers.
