A Taste of Greece: Cook Like a Local, Eat Like the Gods – In the Heart of the Aegean
Skyros Island, Greece – Discover the flavours, traditions, and health benefits of the Mediterranean lifestyle in a truly immersive setting with Skyros Holidays' A Taste of Greece, led by celebrated chef Carl Smith. Running from 21–28 June and 28 June–5 July 2025, this unique retreat combines hands-on cooking with cultural exploration, all set in the heart of one of Greece's most authentic and undiscovered islands.
The Mediterranean diet is widely acclaimed as one of the healthiest in the world, but Skyros invites travellers to go deeper. This experience isn't just about preparing delicious dishes. It's about understanding food as a living connection to community, wellbeing, and the ancient Greek philosophy of philoxenia, a heartfelt tradition of hospitality that welcomes strangers as friends.
Guests join Carl Smith for an in-depth exploration of Skyrian cuisine, learning how the island's fresh, seasonal ingredients, local olive oil, herbs, honey, and produce are used to nourish both body and soul. Highlights include a planned visit to the coastal village of Atsitsa to see fishermen bring in the day's catch, learn about preparation techniques, and enjoy a long seaside lunch with house wine and fresh produce.
“This isn't a cooking class, it's an intimate experience into the soul of Greek life,” says Carl Smith. “You'll come away with so much more than recipes, you'll understand why simplicity, tradition and intention make this way of eating and living so powerful.”
Each day begins with optional yoga, a sea-view walk, or quiet meditation, followed by relaxed breakfasts and morning workshops with Carl. Afternoons are free for the beach, village exploring, or joining other courses running at the same time, such as Singing Your Heart Out with Kate Daniels or Artfulness – Living an Artful Life with Marina Sossi. Evenings might bring music, village tavernas, or simply watching the sunset over the Aegean.
Set in the picturesque Skyros Centre, nestled among cobbled lanes and whitewashed houses, A Taste of Greece is ideal for those looking to connect with food, with community, and with themselves.
