As the temperature gently rises on the weather app, the first rays of sunshine gild the breakfast table, and you stand at the door in the morning, contemplating what to wear—spring has arrived. With it, not only does nature awaken, but so does the yearning for open spaces, fresh air, and paths that lead to faraway places. It's the perfect time to rethink your travel plans. Does it really have to be the car that accompanies us on our journey? Or could our own footsteps be the ones that gently carry us to our destination? A few days surrounded by blossoming landscapes, a journey not defined by speed but by mindfulness. And wouldn't it be wonderful to leave your footprint where it merges seamlessly with nature? With Eurohike, traveling means trusting the natural rhythm, embracing the moment, and arriving without haste—whether in idyllic Spitz on the Danube, in Koblenz where the Rhine and Moselle meet, in the heart of Piedmont, or amid the orange blossoms on Majorca, springtime makes this especially possible.

Between Vineyards and the Danube: Hiking Bliss in the Wachau

As spring transforms the Wachau into a sea of blossoms, a cherished tradition begins: "In die Grean gehen" (into the green) – the first walk through the budding vineyards. This ritual of renewal makes the arrival of spring tangible with every step. From Krems, the trail unfolds into a picturesque landscape. The first ascent rewards hikers with a sweeping view of the Danube, meandering its sparkling path through the valley. Soon, Dürnstein emerges – a charming town where ancient walls meet the fresh vibrancy of young Grüner Veltliner, blending history and indulgence. The journey continues the next day with a ferry ride across the Danube to Rossatz, Austria's largest apricot-growing region. The landscape opens up: first with blooming orchards, then with panoramic views from the Seekopf summit, stretching all the way to the distant Alps. As evening falls and the famous apricot dumplings arrive at the table, it becomes clear – this journey tastes like the Wachau. The path leads onward through enchanting cellar lanes to Spitz and finally to the magnificent Benedictine Abbey in Melk. The adventure concludes with a serene boat ride back to Krems, carrying memories of days immersed in nature and culinary delights.

Through the Blossoming Rhine Valley from Mainz to Koblenz

As the meadows burst into vibrant colors, fruit trees cloak the Rhine Valley in a fragrant veil, and the first warm rays of sunshine kiss the vines, the ideal time to hike the Rheinsteig arrives. The adventure begins in Mainz with a boat ride along the lively river, before stepping into the rolling landscape around the spa town of Schlangenbad. It's the perfect fusion of pristine nature and historic charm that makes this hiking journey so unique. At times, the path meanders through airy deciduous forests, at others through sun-drenched vineyards, leading to historic landmarks and eventually to the wine town of Rüdesheim. Here, over 80% of the vineyards are devoted to Riesling. Who could resist pausing for a glass of this fresh, fruity wine – or perhaps opting for a smooth Pinot Noir instead? Soon, more highlights beckon: the Zollburg Pfalzgrafenstein, standing proudly on a small river island, and the legendary Loreley Rock the next day. Finally, after days immersed in nature, the journey concludes in Koblenz. Here, where the Rhine and Moselle converge, ends a hiking adventure that has not only moved the feet but also touched the soul.

Rheinsteig, Mainz – Koblenz

Savor the spring in Piedmont with all your senses.

Spring arrives early in the gentle hills of Piedmont. Almond trees bloom, the vines sprout their first green leaves, and the scent of freshly brewed cappuccino fills the air. The paths meander from the truffle capital of Alba through the Belbo Valley, where gnarled hazelnut trees have been rooted in the earth for generations. In the villages, the air is filled with the aromas of roasted nuts and sweet pastries, while at noon, the enticing fragrance of creamy truffle risotto drifts through the streets. The vines gently cling to the hills of Langhe-Roero, as the terraced vineyards gradually open up to reveal one of the world's finest wine regions. Soon, Barbaresco appears on the horizon – a picturesque gem where steep hills shape the wine with finesse and spicy elegance. A brief pause for a glass of this fine wine deepens the enchantment of the landscape. High above, the medieval castle of Serralunga d'Alba stands as a quiet guardian over the vast vineyards, generations of winemakers, and the heritage of this unique region. After eight days and around 95 kilometers (59 miles) of pleasure, Barolo glows on the horizon. The final steps lead to a glass of this legendary wine, deep ruby red and suffused with sunlight. A fitting conclusion to a hiking journey that lingers, like the last drop of a perfectly aged red wine.
