Located on the southernmost tip of Bali, Umana Bali is rooted both in the unique landscape of the area and profound local philosophy Tri Hita Karana. Award-winning global design firm WATG | Wimberly Interiors was responsible for the architecture, interior design and landscapes that transformed this sprawling clifftop resort into South East Asia's first LXR Hotels & Resorts property. The unique philosophy which balances people, nature and spirit, informs the design narrative across the resort's 72 expansive villas; five restaurants and bars; a state-of-the-art wellness centre offering round-the-clock rejuvenation with sauna, spa, and invigorating plunge pools; recreational facilities like the dynamic Kids' Club and scenic swimming pools; and an expansive 417 square metres of meeting and event spaces. At Umana Bali, spiritual beliefs are transformed into living works of art. Traditional customs and objects blend seamlessly into spatial experiences, creating a canvas that inspires new social interactions and fosters a vibrant sense of community. This artful integration invites guests to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Balinese culture that permeates throughout the resort.
“Design is a language that speaks to the soul of the destination and the stay experience. We pride ourselves on designing holistically across disciplines to create a harmonious design that is a blend of innovation, sustainability and cultural reverence,” said Chiara Calufetti-Lim, Principal at WATG.
A Sanctuary Rooted in Tradition and Innovation
Every element of Umana Bali's design pays tribute to Balinese traditions, from the resort's 72 expansive villas to its five distinctive restaurants and bars, a state-of-the-art wellness center, and an array of recreational and event spaces. At the heart of the resort, the lobby welcomes guests with a sweeping ocean view beneath a roof inspired by the sacred banyan tree. A striking chandelier, embodying the graceful movements of the Legong Keraton dance, adds a contemporary artistic touch. Meanwhile, antique Balinese dancer statues, crafted from historic Kepeng coins, bridge the past with the present, immersing visitors in Bali's deep cultural roots
Villas Inspired by Nature's Harmony
Drawing inspiration from the Balinese Subak irrigation system, Umana Bali's villas are designed as a modern interpretation of the island's iconic rice paddies. Each private sanctuary boasts a spacious layout with an infinity-edge pool, an outdoor hot tub, and luxurious indoor-outdoor living spaces. Natural materials like marble, wood, and rattan, woven by local artisans, reflect the resort's commitment to sustainability, while eco-friendly amenities such as recycled banana leaf vanity kits and coconut shell boxes reinforce its dedication to responsible luxury.
Colorful Cultural Experiences
Beyond its breathtaking accommodations, Umana Bali offers thoughtfully curated spaces for relaxation and celebration. Lohma Spa embraces Bali's serene spirit, with soft earth tones, fluid architectural lines, and natural skylights creating an immersive wellness retreat. Uma Beach House, has open its door in December 2024 on the shores of Melasti Beach, blends Miami's vibrancy with Peruvian flavors in a setting inspired by Bali's Gelungan headdress. The Wedding Chapel, perched on a cliffside with sweeping ocean views, features a sculptural design inspired by white doves, symbolizing peace and new beginnings.
In line with Hilton's global commitment to responsible tourism, Umana Bali endeavours to preserve the natural beauty of its surroundings and integrate it into the stunning cliffside landscape. The resort emphasises the extensive use of locally sourced materials, using local stone for the pool, pathways, roads, and walls. The selection of local plant species further exemplifies a dedication to crafting a cliffside landscape that is both sustainable and ecologically attuned.
