The Peninsula, whose commitment to supporting the work of visionary artists is exemplified by its global Art in Resonance programme, will launch the programme's latest iteration with a stunning new exhibit at its flagship Hong Kong property. The exhibition, which will debut during Hong Kong Art Week and be open to the public through May, will present commissioned works from local artists Phoebe Hui, and Chris Cheung (widely known as h0nh1m) along with Shanghai-based artist Lin Fanglu in partnership with the esteemed Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A).

The original works from these boundary-pushing artists will be displayed in public spaces at The Peninsula Hong Kong, where the works will be accessible to both hotel guests and visiting art enthusiasts throughout the exhibition period. The programme's 2025 edition will offer exciting and interactive art experiences, while reaffirming The Peninsula Hong Kong's significant role in the cultural landscape of its home city.

New Works That Innovate and Engage

The exhibition spotlights the vision of the Art in Resonance artists, each of whose works will be showcased across The Peninsula Hong Kong, including the iconic façade, The Lobby and The Verandah.

The first piece to greet arriving visitors is Lunar Rainbow, a large-scale celestial-themed installation on the hotel's façade by multimedia artist Phoebe Hui (Hong Kong, China). The work features fragmented images of the moon digitally printed on aluminum panels, created through a custom programme that traces the evolution of lunar imagery from 17th-century scientific moon drawings to contemporary open-source archives, blending the past with the present through a contemporary lens. Custom lighting design echoes a rare natural phenomenon – the moonbow, reflecting on ideas of possibility and new perspectives. Hui's largest artwork to date, Lunar Rainbow pays homage to the moon, a powerful symbol of resilience and hope. Inviting viewers to move forward and embrace the unknown, the installation offers a serendipitous surprise when the moon 'comes together' from a specific angle, offering a perceptual adventure that sparks curiosity and wonder.

Guests will encounter another captivating installation in The Lobby, She's Bestowed Love, by textile artist Lin Fanglu (Dalian, China). Curated by Dr Xiaoxin Li, the V&A's Curator, Asia Department, this large-scale work uses textile dyed red to symbolise energy and emotion, the circle of life, and love. The rising forms of the installation resemble the Greek goddess Gaia, the mother who nurtures all existence. Represented in this work, the love and strength of women are as vast and profound as the earth itself. The artwork draws on the artist's inspiration of traditional textile craftsmanship of the Bai minorities in Yunnan province and the resilient women who have kept these traditions alive for generations. This installation encapsulates what The Peninsula embraces, moving forward in the contemporary world while embracing our defining heritage.

A third, fully immersive installation will welcome visitors at The Verandah, The Flow Pavilion by new media artist h0nh1m (Hong Kong, China). The work, created in collaboration with Tai Ping, uses carpet as an innovative medium to blend elements of futuristic technology with traditional craftsmanship by hand. A one-way mirror structure modelled after a contemporary tea house will be the centrepiece of a Zen Garden at The Verandah. Within the tea house, programmed robotics will display dynamic and intricate patterns on the carpet of the artist's own brain waves during meditation. The all-encasing work will provide guests with a multisensory experience that encourages a state of deep focus and tranquillity.

Bringing Creativity to Life at The Peninsula Hong Kong

To bring Art in Resonance to life across The Peninsula Hong Kong, the hotel will also offer an array of special promotions. These will include several art-themed dining and drink options – including a celebratory Afternoon Tea at The Lobby featuring pastries inspired by the artworks on display, along with British sparkling wine; delicious chocolate bonbons and cookies modelled on specific art pieces at The Lobby and The Verandah; and exclusive in-room chocolate amenities that echo the installations of artists Phoebe Hui and Lin Fanglu. Guests can enjoy artistically inspired cocktails at Felix and The Bar at The Peninsula Hong Kong, each drink crafted to complement the artworks, during the exhibition period.
