Guests travelling aboard the award-winning PS Murray Princess, recently crowned Gold winner at the 2024 South Australian Tourism Awards, can now enjoy an exciting new tour, the “Highlights of the Murray,” made possible through a dynamic partnership between SeaLink South Australia and Juggle House Experiences.

This immersive new experience will showcase the Murray River region's remarkable beauty, history, and culture, adding another layer of discovery to the already unforgettable cruise aboard an authentic paddlewheeler. It is complimentary for 7-night cruise passengers and available as an optional onshore excursion for those on 3- or 4-night cruises.

The “Highlights of the Murray” Tour includes:

  • Explore the history of Mannum: Known as the birthplace of paddle steamers in Australia, Mannum is steeped in river history. This charming riverside town offers insights into the Murray's significance as a lifeline for trade and transport in the 19th century.
  • A Scenic drive from Younghusband to Bowhill: Nestled along the picturesque riverbanks, these serene locations showcase the peaceful beauty of the Murray. Bowhill is particularly known for its striking ochre-coloured cliffs that make for incredible photo opportunities.
  • Big Bend Lookout: A breathtaking vantage point overlooking the iconic Big Bend cliffs—the tallest along the Murray River. These imposing river cliffs glow brilliantly at sunset and are a haven for native birdlife.
  • Forster Lookout: Offering sweeping panoramic views of the Murray River, this lookout is a must-see for nature lovers and a perfect spot to soak in the tranquillity of the river's landscapes.
  • Lunch at Swan Reach Hotel: Enjoy a delicious meal at this historic pub perched atop a cliff, boasting some of the most spectacular river views in the region.
  • Afternoon tea at Walker Flat: Famous for its stunning river red gum trees and abundant wildlife, Walker Flat provides a tranquil riverside setting to relax and spot kangaroos or pelicans in their natural habitat.

Tracy Croft, General Manager of SeaLink South Australia, shared her enthusiasm: “We are thrilled to partner with Juggle House Experiences to deliver a unique tour that celebrates the Murray River's natural beauty and cultural richness. The 'Highlights of the Murray' Tour is an incredible addition to the award-winning PS Murray Princess experience, offering passengers a deeper connection to this stunning region.”

This exciting new partnership leverages the expertise of Kelly Kuhn, owner-operator of Juggle House Experiences and River Murray Dark Sky Tours, who brings over 30 years of tourism experience and a 2022 South Australian Tourism Award for Best Tour Operator to the collaboration.

“It's an honour to collaborate with SeaLink to highlight the many treasures of the Murray River. We can't wait to welcome PS Murray Princess passengers on this journey, showcasing the region's vibrant history, breathtaking landscapes, and authentic hospitality,” added Ms Kuhn.

Built in 1986, the PS Murray Princess evokes the charm and elegance of a bygone era, taking passengers back to a time when river travel was a luxurious adventure. With its classic paddlewheel design, the vessel is the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. Guests can enjoy stunning river views, freshly prepared meals, and exceptional onboard entertainment, from live music to themed evenings and insightful talks on the river's history.

The PS Murray Princess cruises through one of the world's longest navigable rivers, featuring some of the most scenic and historic river landscapes in the country. Offshore experiences allow passengers to explore the region through guided nature walks, a traditional Bush Tucker Breakfast by the riverbank, sheep shearing at the Woolshed, and visits to Australia's only International Dark Sky Reserve.
