Kingfisher Bay Resort's groundbreaking new light show, Illumina, has exceeded expectations in its first three months, selling over 7,500 tickets to the inaugural show, 'Return to Sky.'

As the first of its kind in Australia, Illumina blends cutting-edge lighting technology with eco-conscious infrastructure, offering an innovative platform with limitless potential for future storytelling.

Upcoming narratives in consideration will explore K'gari's vibrant biodiversity, highlight pressing environmental issues, and honour the cultural heritage of the Butchulla people, the island's Traditional Custodians.

Daniel Maroszek, General Manager of Kingfisher Bay Resort, expressed his enthusiasm for Illumina's success, stating, “Beyond its immediate impact on bookings, Illumina represents the future of tourism on K'gari.”

“Our goal is to deliver a forward-thinking experience that not only showcases our commitment to innovation but also provides an engaging way for guests to learn about the island's rich cultural heritage and breathtaking World Heritage-listed landscapes.

“Unlike traditional light shows that require extensive infrastructure, multiple power sources, and large viewing areas, Illumina ensures minimal environmental impact while delivering maximum wonder,” Mr. Maroszek said.

Staying true to Kingfisher Bay Resort's dedication to responsible tourism, sustainability was at the forefront of Illumina's development.

The show comes to life through energy-efficient LED lighting, while a purpose-built amphitheatre includes a dedicated low-impact pathway, allowing guests to enter and exit the show zone without disturbing the surrounding ecosystem.

Construction of the amphitheatre and pathways was completed by Kingfisher Bay Resort's dedicated team of contractors, using locally sourced, rot-resistant timber to ensure durability while preventing the introduction of foreign species.

To further minimise environmental impact, all concrete used was hand-mixed on-site, and large structures were transported in modular pieces, eliminating the need for heavy concrete trucks and cranes to traverse the island's delicate Wallum wetland areas.

Illumina is a shining example of how immersive experiences can be both breathtaking and environmentally responsible, complementing a destination that has been delivering unforgettable nature-based tourism for over 30 years.

Illumina runs nightly at Kingfisher Bay Resort and is available for guests with an existing booking. Visitors can also purchase an Illumina package, which includes accommodation, light show experience, ferry transfers, select dining options, and a full-day 4WD tour showcasing the island's spectacular landscapes.
