Government of Navarra

Navarra is a region, in the north of Spain, with one of the highest levels of prosperity and
quality of life in Europe, with a pioneering healthcare and eduction
system while it also boasts one of the highest levels of safety.
Furthermore, we stand out for our care of the environment, being
the national leaders in recycling, in the production and
consumption of renewable energies, while more than 33% of our
land has special nature protection.

This is a land of variety and, on occasions, even of contradictions. Here we
place great importance on preserving our historical heritage and traditions,
yet still remaining at the forefront of culture. The landscape of Navarre is
also part of this contrast given that, in just a short distance, the high snowcovered
peaks of the Pyrenees in the north give way to the Bardenas
Reales in the south, the largest desert in Europe. And, between one point
and the other, the variety is impressive with enormous forests such as the
Selva de Irati, awesome gorges and cliffs like the one at Lumbier, waterfalls
and fast-running rivers such as the source of the river Urderra, while the
Way of St James crosses right through Navarre offering a wealth of stunning
landscapes and architectural heritage to explore.

In Navarre, visitors are offered hundreds of activities in nature, a centuriesold
history and heritage that is linked to a past as an independent kingdom,
an ancient language, which is the oldest in Europe, "incomparable fiestas",
sublime cuisine that is closely linked to local and seasonal produce, and
beautiful cities, towns and villages to discover and explore.
In return, Navarre is seeking an "Alternative tourism", with tourists who show
respect for the environment, understand the unique nature of our traditions
and rural life, and enjoy taking part, not merely observing. Visitors who
would like to discover new places, take part in the local life and help to
preserve it. This is the challenge that we are proposing to our visitors, a
challenge that involves exploring Navarre while leaving the smallest possible
carbon footprint while taking away an unforgettable experience.
