Marbella, located in Southern Spain's Andalusia region, is making strides to strengthen its ties within the US market with a series of advertising spots in the iconic Times Square and Hudson Yards, New York, as well as a dedicated US travel trade event. Already one of Europe's premier vacation spots famed for its world-class sun and beach offering tied in with a distinctive brand of Mediterranean luxury, this investment is a statement of intent to place Marbella in the forefront of US travellers' minds as they look to plan a trip across the pond.
The Marbella City Council Tourism Delegation has created a series of video content showcasing the destination's world-class beaches, unparalleled wellness and spa offering, luxury resorts, and the glitz and glamour of its nightlife to display at two of the Big Apple's prime advertising locations. The Cube is a six-screen digital spectacle at the intersection of 7th Avenue, Broadway and 47th Street in the iconic Times Square. It is six times larger than a standard billboard and visible from five blocks away making it the perfect location for Times Square's 150 million annual visitors. Marbella will also have presence on all of Hudson Yards Shopping Centre's 59 screens that are visible to 25,000 people daily. Hudson Yard's digital network offers an immersive media experience, ranging from interactive digital kiosks to eye-catching digital walls both inside and outside Hudson Yards, giving the Andalusian destination the opportunity to engage with residents, professionals and tourists in the vicinity.
In addition to advertising spots in New York's premier locations, the Marbella City Council Tourism Delegation has also organised a US travel trade activation that will take place in December 2024. This event has been designed to create new industry relations and reinforce existing partnerships with key travel trade members selling Marbella to US vacationers. The activation has also been designed to drive awareness and build knowledge of the destination and its tourism product.
Located on Spain's Costa del Sol, Marbella is a destination known for its luxurious lifestyle, stunning beaches, and vibrant cultural heritage. Visitors are drawn to its upscale resorts, elegant marinas such as Puerto Banús, and championship golf courses. Marbella also boasts a charming old town, filled with narrow cobbled streets, whitewashed buildings, and quaint plazas, offering a taste of traditional Andalusian life. Marbella is easily accessible from New York with seasonal direct routes from Newark (EWR) to Malaga (AGP) with United Airlines as well as connecting flights from both Newark and JFK via Madrid and Lisbon with Iberia and TAP Air Portugal, respectively.
Having established itself as one of Europe's top luxury vacation spots, Marbella is showing its ambition with these strategic activations to drive awareness of the destination in the US market. In fact, according to Allianz Partners, trips to Europe by American travellers increased by 55% in 2023 over the previous year. Meanwhile aviation data analysts, Forward Keys, reported a 21% YOY increase in international arrivals from the USA to Europe for July and August 2024. These statistics show the importance of the US as a source market for European destinations and the potential the US offers to destinations such as Marbella.
