With Canada's northern territory celebrating Yukon Heritage Day on 21 February, specialist tour operator Journeyscape is delighted to reveal two brand new holidays to experience the region's stunning glacial landscapes, its eventful history and breathtaking Northern Lights.

The Yukon first came to the world's attention during the Gold Rush of the 1890s, and the territory's people proudly celebrate their culture and history on Heritage Day with sled dog races, air shows and snow sculpture contests. This much-celebrated day also coincides with one of the best times of the year to watch the Northern Lights. The season runs between August and April, with skies clearest November to March.

Dominique Kotsias, product manager for Journeyscape, comments, “If seeing the Aurora Borealis is on your bucket list, now is the time to cross it off as thanks to recent a surge in aurora activity, spectacular light displays are predicted over the next two years.”

Journeyscape offers an 8-day Yukon Northern Lights Adventure from £1,890 per person, combining three days in fascinating Vancouver with four days in the Yukon. Visit Vancouver's Capilano Suspension Bridge, the urban rainforest of Stanley Park and historic Gastown, before flying to Yukon capital Whitehorse for four nights of Aurora viewing. During the day, visit the Sternwheeler SS Klondike and Schwatka Lake, while in the evenings, experience the incredible Northern Lights from the comfort of your heated cabin or wall tent. Add on a variety of daytime excursions, including ice fishing, snowshoeing, dog sledding, snowmobiling or a wildlife tour.

Journeyscape offers a range of holidays to the Yukon, which are stunning in a completely different way in summer, when you can experience the wonder of the Midnight Sun. Discover the mountains, icefields and indigenous communities of the Yukon's northern wilderness on Journeyscape's 10-day fly-drive Highlights of the Yukon from £1,570 per person. Watch wildlife including elk, moose and bison at Yukon Wildlife Preserve, visit stunning Emerald Lake and Carcross, the world's smallest desert. Take an amazing flightseeing tour over the icy peaks of vast Kluane National Park, then drive along the Top of the World Highway to discover the Yukon's Gold Rush heritage in Dawson City.

Travel expert for Journeyscape Joshua Salter comments, “The Yukon allows you to experience North America's Arctic wilderness without the crowds found in popular parts of Alaska. Kluane National Park is definitely a highlight, and a flightseeing tour really shows you the scale of this vast wilderness of mountains and glaciers.”

Notes to editor: Prices are based on two people sharing, including transfers, vehicle hire where indicated, and good-quality hotels. International flights are extra.
