Acquisition of Ireland's Only Luxury Hotel Barge Strengthens the Company's Commitment to Providing the 'Ultimate Luxury Barging Experience' Across Europe.

European Waterways, Europe's leading luxury hotel barge cruising company, is delighted to announce the acquisition of Shannon Princess, Ireland's only luxury hotel barge, marking an exciting expansion of the company's renowned fleet of intimate cruising experiences.

Sláinte to New Beginnings

Cruising Southern Ireland's River Shannon since 2003, the Shannon Princess has been expertly owned and operated by husband-and-wife duo, Ruairi and Olivia Gibbons, and has long been a cherished part of European Waterways' offerings. Now fully under European Waterways ownership, the barge will continue to follow the same beloved itinerary while gradually introducing enhancements that elevate the already exceptional experience.

Given the increasing demand and current booking trends, with the Shannon Princess booking up years in advance, the company plans to extend the season for 2025 and beyond. This expansion will be supported by the company's experienced Sales and Reservations team based in their UK offices.

Designed to accommodate up to 10 passengers, Shannon Princess features spacious en suite cabins, a panoramic saloon, and an expansive sun deck with a spa pool perfect for alfresco dining and relaxation. A dedicated crew of five ensures an unparalleled level of service, catering to guests' every need.

“We are thrilled to welcome Shannon Princess to the European Waterways family,” says Derek Banks, Managing Director of European Waterways. “Her charm and character align perfectly with our commitment to luxury and cultural immersion. This acquisition further enhances our ability to offer our guests unforgettable journeys through Ireland's stunning landscapes and historic waterways.”

Exploring the Emerald Isle in Style

The Shannon Princess will continue cruising the River Shannon in Ireland, celebrated for its rolling green landscapes, charming villages, and deep-rooted history. Guests will enjoy curated experiences such as private whiskey tastings at historic distilleries, guided tours of ancient castles, and walking and fishing opportunities along the way. Exclusive “Insider Experiences” include onboard cooking demonstrations, live traditional Irish music, and private visits to stately homes.

In line with all other European Waterways-owned barges, the Shannon Princess will afford the traditional blue, yellow and red European Waterways' livery ahead of the 2025 cruise season. Future enhancements may include refined interiors, expanded excursion options, and bespoke onboard experiences, ensuring guests enjoy the pinnacle of luxury and full immersion in Ireland's world-renowned culture of hospitality.

As interest in immersive, luxury slow travel continues to grow, European Waterways stands out as a leader in delivering distinctive, curated experiences that reflect the history, heritage, and beauty of Europe's waterways. With a fleet of 18 vessels, the company remains dedicated to preserving and enhancing the timeless allure of hotel barging.
