Tignes: Where Every Skier Finds Their Perfect Slope

Tignes

With a magical white Christmas, and cracking New Year's celebration well and truly behind us, Tignes can get down to the nitty gritty – just pure unfiltered intense skiing. Regardless if you are in search of powder, endless runs, plenty of varied runs or a gentle hill for your first ever turns – Tignes is the ultimate skier and snowboarder's playground and has it all: 100% Ski – 0% Stress

"Tignes offers something truly special - a combination of world-class terrain, Frédéric Porte, Chief Executive Officer of Tignes Tourism. "From first-time skiers to Olympic athletes, everyone finds their perfect challenge – and slope here."

The Expert

For the expert skiers, the starting point has to be La Grande Motte glacier, reaching an impressive 3,656m, the glacier descents offer steep, demanding runs that test even the best of skiers. The off-piste opportunities in Le Grand Vallon and Les Lanches provide the perfect setup for those looking to push their boundaries in pristine powder conditions.

Then of course there is the legendary La Sache black run dropping an exhilarating 1,400 meters from its starting point – the perfect challenging slope for the expert skier.

The Intermediate

Intermediate skiers are spoiled for choice with 41 red and 66 blue runs covering the entire Tignes-Val d'Isere ski area. The terrain between Val Claret and Les Brevières offers perfect conditions for honing technique and skills, on lovely wide well-groomed pistes.

The Double M piste, which combined with red runs Glacier and Rimaye stretches over 10 kilometres, offers one of the longest continuous runs in Europe, perfect for intermediate skiers building confidence on long slopes – Just imagine carving down 1,400 vertical meters with the spectacular Lac du Chevril dam as your stunning backdrop.

And the skiing playground got even bigger in December – the Le Marais 6-seater chairlift, is not only new, it is faster and quieter – And it will whisk around 2,020 skiers per hour up to the Aiguille Percée summit. Another lift means that Tignes can continue their long-standing motto of no waiting lines – 100% ski – 0% stress

The Beginner

Just starting out? No problem! All beginners deserve to start their ski adventure and fall in love with skiing in the best conditions, and as stress-free, as possible. Tignes offers one of the best skiing classrooms in the Alps. The dedicated beginners' area in Val Claret features 8 gentle green slopes and 9 free lifts for beginners. Through the ski school's innovative teaching methods, they know how to turn those first-day nerves into first-class confidence.

Once beginners have graduated from the nursery slope, the Palafour chair lift in Tignes Le Lac, will take them to the Combe slope, a gentle blue slope, excellent for practising the new taught turns, admiring the views and stopping for a drink as they make their way down.

And then on to the best part – the snow. And in particular the snow safe and reliable conditions stretching all the way into May. Mother nature has already been kind so far and has provided a solid snow base for the rest of the season and the resort should be well on the its way of reaching its average of 615cm of snowfall in Tignes le Lac.

Here's what you'll find at Tignes:
