NoHo Hospitality Announces the First-Ever Expansion of Locanda Verde, the Beloved New York City Osteria, in Fall 2024

Locanda Verde

NEW YORK, November 14, 2024 — NoHo Hospitality, one of the city's most dynamic restaurant and bar groups, today announces the opening of the first-ever expansion of Locanda Verde in Fall 2024. Located at 50 Hudson Yards on the corner of 34 St. and Hudson Boulevard East, the bi-level osteria brings Chef Andrew Carmellini's soulful urban Italian cuisine to this vibrant New York City neighborhood.

Locanda Verde's menu will debut Chef Andrew Carmellini's new dishes while reprising long-time fan favorites. The osteria is a partnership with Hollywood legend Robert De Niro, who is also a partner in the original Tribeca location.

“We are excited to unveil the first expansion of Locanda Verde,” says Chef Carmellini, Chef/Co-Founder, NoHo Hospitality. “We opened Locanda Verde 15 years ago in Tribeca and felt that it was the right time to bring our signature Italian cooking style and approachability to this wonderful neighborhood. We are delighted to be on the street level with our own entrance to really engage our new neighbors.”

Spectacular Interior Design by Roman and Williams Honors Milanese Glamour

The interiors of Locanda Verde were designed by Roman and Williams, through the vision of founders Stephen Alesch and Robin Standefer, to honor Italy's elegantly understated 1930s vernacular of glamour and refinement. Exterior palazzo-style shutters, high-ceilinged interiors and integrated classical arches blend Italian classicism with 20th-century functionalism and rationalism. The main dining room is awash in golden amber, plush orange and velvet stripes. Multiple inset mirrors set in a variety of stones and four massive, silver-and-blown-glass chandeliers further enliven the room. Uncluttered geometries and robust materials reflect Locanda Verde's Italy-focused ethos.

Under their creative vision, Alesch and Standefer, for whom murals are a hallmark of their milieu, commissioned Dean Barger to paint the walls of the dining room and a small, jewel-like bar, featuring tableaus of horses and elements of Cubism and Expressionism inspired by the style of Portuguese modernist painter Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso. It is complemented by Expressionist paintings and drawings by Robert De Niro, Sr., the famed actor's father.

“We are thrilled to once again partner with Andrew Carmellini and NoHo Hospitality to reimagine a New York institution, crafting a rich and layered space whose architecture and interiors are warm and seductive,” says Standefer.

With Seating on Two Levels, an Outdoor Terrace Is Planned for Spring 2025

Locanda Verde seats 165 guests in total. This includes 75 in the main level dining room, 12 at the ground floor bar, 72 in the upstairs dining room and six at the second floor bar. In Spring 2025, the osteria will unveil outdoor terrace seating with park and riverfront views.

Evocative Paintings by Robert De Niro, Sr.

Locanda Verde is adorned with two dozen works of art by Robert De Niro, Sr., the father of Robert De Niro, with most being exhibited to the public for the first time in decades. Ranging in size from 15”x12” to 52”x46”, they span a wide array of media: oil on masonite; oil on canvas; oil on linen; pastels on paper; lithographs on paper; charcoal on paper; pencil on paper; charcoal, chalk and gouache on buff paper; and crayon on paper.

A prolific New York School artist, De Niro, Sr. bridged the abstract expressionism of his peers, Willem De Koonig, Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollock, with representational and often figurative works. Over his career of nearly 50 years, his work was collected by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Brooklyn Museum, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Corcoran Gallery of Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

A Stunning Location in 50 Hudson Yards

Locanda Verde is located at street level in 50 Hudson Yards at the corner of 34 St. and Hudson Boulevard East. The restaurant has its own entrance that faces a lush park and the #7 subway entrance.
