Aircalin to Increase Flights to Nouméa from April as New Caledonia Lifts Curfew

In a major step towards restoring normalcy, the High Commissioner in Nouméa has announced the lifting of the curfew across New Caledonia, effective Monday, December 2, 2024. The curfew, which was implemented in response to a period of unrest, was in place since May. Its removal signals a stabilisation of the situation and marks an important milestone for the local community as well as for visitors planning to return to the region.

In response to growing demand, Aircalin is enhancing its services to New Zealand. Currently operating one weekly flight from Auckland to Nouméa every Sunday, the airline will increase its schedule to two flights per week from April 3, 2025, with the addition of a Thursday service.

These flights will be operated using Aircalin's modern Airbus A320Neo, delivered in 2020, which offers state-of-the-art seating and advanced LED HD touchscreen entertainment systems. Passengers can enjoy an enhanced in-flight experience with more than 90 programmes available.

Chris Thistlethwaite, Aircalin's General Manager for New Zealand, said:

“We are thrilled to welcome Kiwis back to New Caledonia, a destination teeming with unique cultural and recreational experiences. The lifting of the curfew is a reassuring sign, and with the additional flight from April, we're making it easier for New Zealand travellers to explore their closest South Pacific neighbour.”

Julie Laronde, CEO of New Caledonia Tourism, added:

“The lifting of the curfew and the upcoming increase in flight capacity are pivotal moments in New Caledonia's reopening journey. These milestones reflect our dedication to welcoming visitors back with open arms and highlight the resilience and vibrancy of our communities. New Zealand travellers can look forward to enriching experiences, all within just a short flight.”

These efforts mark a pivotal step in the territory's recovery and growth as a premier South Pacific destination, offering unique and culturally rich experiences just a short flight from New Zealand.
