PRESS RELEASE DATED 03/12/2024
Aircalin Expands Flight Services to Nouméa as New Caledonia Lifts Curfew
In a major step towards restoring normalcy, the High Commissioner in Nouméa has announced the lifting of the curfew across New Caledonia, effective Monday, December 2, 2024. The curfew, which was implemented in response to a period of unrest, was in place since May 13th. Its removal signals a stabilisation of the situation and marks an important milestone for the local community as well as for visitors planning to return to the region.
This development coincides with Aircalin's commitment to enhancing connectivity between Australia and New Caledonia. Currently, Aircalin operates two flights per week from both Sydney and Brisbane to Nouméa. In response to growing demand, the airline plans to increase services during peak school holiday periods in April, June, July, August, September, and October 2025, expanding to three flights per week from each city. These additional flights, complemented by services from our codeshare partners, aim to make Nouméa more accessible to Australian travellers.
Aircalin's fleet features modern Airbus A320Neo and A330Neo aircraft, delivered in 2020 and 2019 respectively. These aircraft are equipped with state-of-the-art seating and advanced LED HD touchscreen entertainment systems, offering passengers an enhanced in-flight experience with over 90 programs.
Chris Thistlethwaite, Aircalin's General Manager for Australia and New Zealand, expressed enthusiasm about the developments:
“We are delighted to welcome Australians back to New Caledonia, a destination rich in cultural and recreational offerings. The lifting of the curfew signifies a return to normalcy, and our increased flight schedules during school holidays in 2025 will provide greater flexibility and convenience for travellers.”
Rebecca Marchal, Account Director for New Caledonia Tourism in Australia, added:
“The lifting of the curfew and the increase in flight capacity are significant milestones in New Caledonia's journey towards normalcy. This demonstrates our resilience and underscores the strong partnership between Aircalin and New Caledonia Tourism. Australian travellers can look forward to unique and culturally rich experiences, all within a short flight from home. The destination is open and ready to welcome visitors with open arms.”
These efforts mark a pivotal step in the territory's recovery and growth as a premier South Pacific destination, offering unique and culturally rich experiences just a short flight from Australia.
