Introducing Serena's New Marketing and Sales team

Serena Hotels Africa was delighted to attend World Travel Market in London.  It was a great opportunity for Maureen Okore, Serena's new Regional Marketing Director to meet members of the trade and media, four months into her new role.  Maureen joined Serena Hotels in July, taking the reins from tourism stalwart Rosemary Mugambi who retired after 36 years of loyal service.  Maureen is a 5-time award-winning marketing and communications expert who is extremely passionate about amplifying brands. Joyce Wangui also rejoined the Serena team in January 2024 after a 7-and-a-half-year break, stepping into the role of Regional Sales Director.  Travel writers and journalists are most welcome to get in touch with Maureen to discuss opportunities for 2025 on maureen.okore@serenahotels.com.

Serena shines at Eco Tourism Kenya Awards

Serena Hotels Africa was honoured and delighted to scoop an incredible seven Eco Warrior Awards in Nairobi on 17 October 2024.  These awards are championed by Ecotourism Kenya which established Kenya's Eco-Rating Certification Scheme, with the theme for 2024 being 'Realising Sustainable Development Goals through Sustainable Tourism'. 

Serena's awards included Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge taking 1st position for "Leading Accommodation in Responsible Business Practices", with Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge as 1st Runner Up; and Lake Elmenteita Serena Camp as 2nd Runner Up.  Serena Beach Resort & Spa won the award for "Leading Accommodation in Conservation of Aquatic Life".  Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge was 1st Runner Up with Mara Serena Safari Lodge 2nd Runner Up for "Leading Accommodation in Promoting Viable Tourism Practices". Mara Serena Safari Lodge was also 1st Runner Up for "Leading Accommodation in Climate Action".

Serena Beach Resort Launches Padel Tennis

Serena Beach Resort and Spa is the first resort in Mombasa to install a padel tennis court, launched on 25 October 2024.  Padel is played using a short, stringless racquet with an elastic surface and a low compression tennis ball, within an enclosed court surrounded by glass and metallic mesh.

General manager of the resort, Alphaxad Chege, expressed excitement at the new milestone: “We are delighted to be the first resort in Mombasa to have introduced the fastest growing sport. This is in line with Serena Hotel's promise to Enhance guest experiences while staying attuned to evolving hospitality trends.”

Raising the Bar, Serena Style

A number of Serena properties have enjoyed significant refurbishments and upgrades recently, including: 

Serena Beach Resort & Spa in Mombasa, Kenya

A new 280 kpw Solar PV plant has been installed to reduce carbon emissions and embrace cleaner, greener energy.  Recently completed a significant soft refurbishing of all public areas giving a fresh look whilst preserving the authentic Swahili coastal atmosphere. In all guest rooms, the bedsides now have universal plug sockets with USB ports as well as electronic locks on the doors.  The WIFI has boosted connectivity, and a new IPTV system has been rolled out for enhanced in-room entertainment.  The new padel tennis court is a big hit with both in-house guests and walk ins.

This tented camp has also seen some recent investment to uplift the guest experience including Arabic showers, new thatched Makuti roofs and comfortable new mattresses and lovely new lamp shades in the Morani suites.  All suites, including standard tents, now have hair dryers.   Experience wise, guests will love the new cycling and archery activities on offer - not to mention the jacuzzi at the swimming pool.

Serena Mivumo River Lodge in Tanzania

This lodge, beautifully located overlooking the mighty Rufiji River, has enjoyed a refurbishment of all guest room balconies.  A number of the guest rooms have been rethatched and all suites have new air conditioners.  A new Massage/Spa bathroom and toilet has also been built.

These beautiful, tented suites have enjoyed some TLC recently to ensure a luxurious guest experience under canvas.  Al bedsides now have universal plug sockets with USB charging points for guest convenience. A new driveway and guest drop off point has also been added for smoother access.
