Halton as a tourism destination isn't as well-known as some of its counterparts in Liverpool City Region, but it holds its own in its diverse and alternative offer.
Some may know Halton for its industrial heritage or iconic bridge, but there is so much more to discover. This rural hinterland of Liverpool has a music heritage that has been the soundtrack for many artists, such as the iconic 90s Stone Roses gig at Spike Island, which is now a Green Flag parkland and part of the Trans Pennine Trail.
Halton is a melting pot of fascinating history, from the picturesque village of Hale where you can step back in time with its thatched roofs and its very own 'giant' the Childe of Hale. You can also walk along to the lighthouse and take in the views. Back in Runcorn you can visit the ruins of the Runcorn castle or visit Norton Priory Museum and Gardens, which is one of the most excavated monastic sites in Europe. Or looking for more culture, visit The Brindley for a live show or The Lewis Carroll visitor centre to find out about one of the literary greats, famous for writing Alice in Wonderland. There is also so many waterways and trails for you to get out and about and discover this surprising and fascinating region.
Just a short train ride from Liverpool City Centre and also on the main train line from London Euston, direct to Runcorn, you can make a visit to Halton as part of a weekend getaway to Liverpool or Chester.
We've gathered some of the most anticipated events upcoming in Halton for the rest of 2024 and will add to this for events and openings planned for 2025! Check out www.visithalton.co.uk for more information.
