Crystalbrook Bailey Feature Artist Exhibition: 'Maybe… in Flux' by TAFE Queensland Ceramics

This thought-provoking exhibition highlights the work of a talented group of artisans and craftspeople, each bringing their unique perspective to the theme of change. Through a diverse array of ceramic works, the exhibition explores personal, cultural, and environmental narratives, encouraging viewers to reflect on the ever-evolving nature of existence.

Speaking about the exhibition, the artists shared, “'Maybe… in Flux' is a celebration of the transformative processes that shape our world. Each piece invites the viewer to witness and contemplate the delicate balance between permanence and impermanence, resilience and fragility, capturing the essence of change.”

The opening night event this Friday 11 October 2024, will allow guests to explore each piece of artwork and allow their minds to drift. The opening event will allow the opportunity to meet and greet with the artists and Arte. Wine Bar will be open for wines and snacks.

Key dates and locations:

  • Opening night and artists talk: Friday, 11 October 2024, 6:00 pm. Free to attend.
  • Exhibition duration: 11 October – 30 November 2024
  • Location: Crystalbrook Bailey Atrium lobby, 163 Abbott Street, level one, Cairns City

About the Artists:

The exhibition features work from a talented group of emerging ceramicists from TAFE Queensland in Cairns, including Nicole Pan, Olivia Azzopardi, Philomena Eustace, Simona Cosentini, Veronice Lau, Vicki Park, Carol Edelberg, Sarah Watson, and Catia Brooks. Each artist brings a unique perspective, blending traditional techniques with modern interpretations to explore the theme of transformation.

About the Exhibition:

"Maybe… in Flux" explores transformation through ceramics, featuring delicate porcelain sculptures that reflect the fleeting beauty of nature's transitions, like blooming flowers and breaking waves. In contrast, robust stoneware pieces highlight geological change and erosion through abstract forms and textured glazes. Some works narrate human and societal transformations, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques to create a dialogue between heritage and contemporary life. This exhibition invites viewers to contemplate the cycles of change that define our world.
